Daytime Divas Recap: Nina Has a Major Scare + Maxine Outsmarts the Detective

Maxine talks to Detective Stagliano.

She recounts the events that happened the night of Ted’s death. She pretty much gives him the same story as the media.

He tells her he will be in touch.

Heather learns her son has a bully.

Her son is getting picked on at school and he doesn’t want to use the boys bathroom because it makes him uncomfortable. She tells him to use the boy’s bathroom for now because there isn’t anything she can do.

Shawn wants to continue his break from Nina.

Nina confronts Shawn about not really talking to her lately but Shawn reiterates that he thinks time apart is necessary.

Cecile tries to sneak in disguised to pick up her makeup bag she left behind. Maxine tells her she can come back to the show whenever she wants, but Cecile isn’t interested and tells her she has a movie coming out based on her book.

The ladies meet their new guest co-host, Janet Mock, who happens to be transgender.

During filming, Heather speaks on her divorce and says that her family just wants prayers and privacy.

Nina then brings up the fact that mothers often win primary custody of their kids 70% of the time, and this seems to get under Shawn’s skin.

Maxine brings up the fact some fathers do win primary custody but Nina doesn’t back down.

Heather decides to change the subject to Janet and questions if she’s happy being transgender.

“Janet, are you happy? I mean, would you say you are a happy person?” – Heather

“Yes, I’m actually very happy.” – Janet

“I am so glad to hear that. That makes me feel so much better for you.” – Heather

Kibby later checks Heather for making Janet uneasy with her questions.

William’s mother is in town.

Williams gets a surprise visit from his mother, Gloria, and she has a very strong personality, much like Maxine. She tells Maxine she wants to go to the next taping of Lunch Hour but she doesn’t want any “cheap seats.”

Maxine urges Shawn to talk to a lawyer.

Bothered by what Nina said on the show about mothers getting full custody, Maxine tells Shawn to lawyer up. She doesn’t trust Nina and wants Shawn to protect himself. He doesn’t think Nina would be messy when it comes to their child but Maxine isn’t convinced.

Shawn later talks to Nina and she tells him that she wants primary custody and will set up visitation. This angers him and he stresses that he doesn’t want to be a weekend dad.

She promises things won’t get messy but Shawn tells her that her promises can’t be taken seriously.

This angers Nina and Shawn tells her he’s getting a lawyer.

Gloria tells Maxine she wanted to see Mo but Maxine reiterates that Mo is gone and not returning.

“She’s quite the original.” – Maxine

“Now you’re able to see how I’m able to put up with you.” – Williams

Meanwhile, Heather talks to Janet about how supportive her parents were of her becoming transgender.

Kibby gives a warning.

Kibby calls her old colleague, Vance, and warns him not to come on the show even though he booked an appearance. She tells him to stay far away from her and hangs up the phone.

Detective Stagliano gets more information.

He goes to the restaurant Maxine, Shawn and her husband Ted went to the night of Ted’s death, and the waiter who was there that night says that Shawn got really angry at Ted and it was “scary.”

While filming, a crazed fan tries to run up on Nina and he has to be handled by security.

Heather makes a really bad move.

During filing, Heather continues to ask Janet a lot of questions about her process of becoming transgender and when Janet jokes that Heather must be getting ready to make the change herself, Heather tells Janet she’s a “real girl.” This hurts Janet and she tells Heather she’s a “real idiot.”

Kibby later hears from Maxine that Vance cancelled his appearance. She’s relieved.

Shawn wants to move forward.

Despite Nina’s scare during filming, Shawn calls her and asks her if she can have a sit-down with him and his attorney. Nina is surprised but angrily accepts, offering to come with her lawyer.

She’s confronted by the crazed fan, Gary, on the elevator. He refuses to let her get off the elevator and requests a selfie.

Shawn and the rest of the production team find out and work to get her out safely.

Heather pulls Janet to the side, and explains she’s been asking so many questions because her son, Brad Jr. (Ella) is trans.

“That’s the first time you said it out loud.” – Janet

Heather then apologizes for the offensive comments she made to Janet on air. However, Janet tells her it’s cool as long as people know the difference between being transphobic and trans-ignorant.

Later, the detective tries to talk to Shawn but is unsuccessful as he’s too busy trying to get Nina safe. Later, he finds Maxine and learns she is dating William, thanks to Gloria.

Maxine pulls a fast move, and confirms she’s dating William on the show but says they have only been dating for a few months.

Nina and Shawn call a truce.

Nina is finally able to get off the elevator safely and Shawn tells her that he’s sorry for all the arguing they have been doing lately. He suggests they call off their lawyers for now and she agrees.

Kibby makes peace with Heather and gives her a bedazzled hair clip to give to Ella.

They hug it out.

Kibby later sees flowers in her dressing room but is disappointed they came from Vance and not Julian. She gives the flowers to Ramona who says it’s the best day of her life.

Maxine and Shawn talk about what happened to Ted and he tells her he can’t forget it. In a flashback scene, it is revealed that Shawn and Ted argued and Shawn was actually the one who threw the glass at Ted.

He says he doesn’t regret a thing.

Heather tells the kids she will homeschool them and allow them to be themselves. She’s also determined to eventually get them into a better school where they won’t be bullied.

At the end of the episode, the detective adds William’s picture to his board.

  1. Yes! I was worried she was cut out completely. She just brings that lil bit of edge and comedy to the show.
