‘Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta’ Recap: Bow Wow Faces His Dad + Reginae & Toya Clash

Brandon and Deb recap the antics at the showcase.

Deb and Brandon meet at a restaurant to talk about the showcase. Deb tells Brandon that the show was dragging and the sound was terrible. She felt that he should’ve had a sound check before the performance.

Brandon tells Deb that he’s mad that his message didn’t resonate with his artist Honey Bee. Then Deb says, “Well, I’m Debra Antney.”

Deb feels she has a better time communicating with artists because of her reputation as manager.

Deb tries to convince Bow Wow to speak to Alfonso one more time.

Later on, Deb is driving through Atlanta when Alfonso calls her. Alfonso tells Deb he really wants to sit down with Bow Wow. Deb tells him that this isn’t the best time, especially after talking to Da Brat.

Alfonso says that if she isn’t going to help him do this, he’ll go look to meet him in his own way. Deb is realizing she may have stepped out of her place.

“You really did it this time Debbie.” – Deb

At the studio, Bow Wow is listening to his track he made with Da Brat and JD. Bow Wow reiterates that Funkmaster Flex calling him out motivated him to stay into the studio. Da Brat says he needs to keep focused.

“Do this for your family.” –  Da Brat

Bow Wow records his verse and she is impressed. In fact, she doesn’t think he should retire.

Da Brat says, “Bow Wow is talented. He’s got more than one album in him.”

Deb meets Bow Wow at a listening party. She tells Bow Wow that she spoke to Alfonso. Consequently, Bow Wow tells Deb he feels disrespected by Deb for intervening.

“I wish you hollered at me first. Damn, I wish you hollered at me first.” -Bow Wow

Deb still feels he needs to squash his beef with Alfonso to do right by his daughter Shai. She also tells him that he looks good, implying that he isn’t back on the booze.

Deb feels Zonnique needs a team to help her grow.

Zonnique is in the studio putting the finishing touches on a new song. She sent the son to Deb and calls Deb to ask her about it and Deb loves the song. She then tells Zonnique that she needs to put a team together to help her market herself. Zonnique is happy to hear this and thankful that she doesn’t have to work with Brandon.

Speaking of Brandon, Brandon begins to reply on Reginae’s Instagram posts asking to talk. She brush it off and texts Zonnique about it. When Toya gets home, Reginae asks her to write a book together.

Toya isn’t immediately sold on the idea. Most of all, she wants Reginae to go to college. Toya feels Reginae is spoiled and doesn’t know how the real world works. But she is willing to do the book if Reginae is going to pull her weight.

In her interview, Reginae is frustrated with how Toya treats her.

“My mom is always treating me like a kid.” -Reginae.

Toya tells Reginae to come up with her plan for the book before she commits to it.

Brandon is fed up with Deb’s presence in his career.

Brandon meets with the group Brave. They meet at his home and from jump, he isn’t feeling their energy. When they begin to practice, Brandon stops them because they seem to not be giving it their all. As he is coaching them, they ask what’s its going to take to be good enough to impress Deb. This frustrates Brandon as he is still trying to separate himself from Deb professionally.

“Newsflash, who gives a f***!” -Brandon

Lastly, he asks the group, “Why does it matter what Deb thinks?”

Later that night, Shaniah invites Ayana out to hang out with Reginae and Zonnique. Reginae brings up how Brandon hit her up on Instagram to talk. This raises the tension among the ladies but things calm down as Zonnique tells them about her plans for a listening party. Consequently, Reginae says she doesn’t want to go if Brandon goes. Ayana tells the ladies, “Don’t say nothin else because I’ma start fighting.” The scene ends with Ayana and Reginae staring one another down.

Deb realizes the severity of her actions.

Deb is at her office and calls Alfonso. Alfonso says that Bow Wow is avoiding him, and not answering his phone calls. Deb tries to tell him that he isn’t interested in talking. During the phone call, Deb realizes that he’s been drinking before the call.

“He is lit. He relapsed.” -Deb

She is regretful that she got involved. She is able to tell him how Bow Wow feels, and advises him not to go see him. However, Alfonso doesn’t seem responsive to that advice.

“If Bow Wow sees that man, he might just haul off and knock him out.” -Deb

Ayana and Brandon meet at The Pizza Bar. He is frustrated that artists are trying to go through him to get to Deb. Ayana tells Brandon that Zonnique is putting a team together and is hosting an audition for positions. Next, she tells Brandon that Zonnique is having a listening party. Brandon feels disrespected by this. Brandon says that he will have a conversation with Deb about it.

Reginae and Toya clash.

Toya is walking her dog when Reginae walks to meet her. Toya asks Reginae about her status with the book, and Reginae says she will work on it on her own time. This makes Toya mad.

“You do this s*** all the time. You keep putting stuff on the back burner.” – Toya

Reginae catches an attitude and tells Toya she needs to chill out.

The two of them begin to argue about Reginae not doing what Toya asked her to do. Toya is completely frustrated with her daughter and walks away.

Brandon gets his revenge and Zonnique sees that the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Debra and Zonnique are at their audition. Debra tells her that Zonnique is only as strong as her team. They listen to the pitches from the people looking to join and everything is going well. Well, that is until Brandon walks in. A shocked Deb asks why he’s there.

“I wanna make sure Debbie isn’t taking charge of everything.” – Brandon

“I’m gonna just let you f*** this up yourself.” -Deb

Brandon sits in on the panel and Zonnique is frustrated with this. “

Why are you trying to f*** up my career?” – Zonnique

As they are interviewing other people, Brandon and Deb begin to argue as one person compares Zonnique to Aaliyah. Deb says it’s her pet peeve as Brandon retorts, calling it an honest mistake.

They begin to argue over this and Zonnique realizes that Deb may be really similar to Brandon, as far as their tactics and directness.

“The apple doesn’t fall from the tree.” -Zonnique

Alfonso goes to see Bow Wow, but doesn’t get the response he wanted.

Bow Wow is at the studio listening to his new song. Meanwhile, Alfonso caught an Uber to head to the same studio. In the car, he tells the driver that he is regretful that he chose the bottle over his son.

A producer texts Bow Wow that Alfonso is heading to the studio,. This angers him and he is frustrated about the whole thing. As his father is coming up the stairs to the studio, Bow Wow is hyping himself up to be in his father’s presence.

Finally, when Alfonso arrives, Bow Wow angrily greets him by saying, “Why the f*** are you here man?

  1. Reginae is very disrespectful to everybody. Even her mother. I don’t know how Toya didn’t slap the taste out her mouth when she said girl chill out. No ma’am.

  2. I would have hemmed Reginae’s little a-s up by her fur as soon as she clinched her teeth and tried to check me at the beginning of the conversation. How the f-ck are you talking through your teeth to your momma? An a-s whooping is well overdue for that child.

  3. Brandon seems bitter. On every episode he’s acting belligerent, argumentative, and aggressive. In my opinion it shows he’s very insecure. Why be mad at Deb? She’s been in the game much longer and is well established. Just sit back, listen and learn some things. He needs to learn humility bc with his attitude he’s always going to lose and his mouth is going to write a check his butt can’t cash one day.
