Insecure Recap: Issa Enjoys her Rotation + Molly Crosses the Line

Issa sits in traffic to visit someone in her rotation: Daniel.

The episode starts out with Issa stuck in traffic, and her gas tank is low. We see a montage of sorts as Issa heads to the Gas Station to fill up. She’s trying to make her way over to Daniel’s house.

When she gets Daniel’s place, she jokingly knocks on the door. Daniel then acts like he’s going to get his gun, which startles Issa who shouts out her name. When he opens the door, the immediately kiss, then she asks, “Were you really going to shoot me?”

Molly is enticed to stay in Chicago to advance her career.

Molly is in Chicago to work at the other location. She catches up with another black attorney. Molly points out the number of black people at the law firm. Molly’s colleague, played by Lil Rel, brings up that the diversity isn’t there at Molly’s LA office.

He tells Molly the LA office reminded him why he went to Howard.

Molly agrees.

“It reminds me of why that Solange album stays on repeat in my car.” – Molly

Her colleague then gives her advice, suggesting that she should look to joining the Chicago office full-time or going to another firm with a bit more diversity.

Molly doesn’t think it’s a good time, however, because she’s already spent so much time at her current law firm already. He also asks Molly if she brought up Travis earning more than her to the higher ups, and Molly said it’s not a good idea to do so.

At Daniel’s place, Issa is getting dressed to head out for her night. Daniel is a little perplexed about this because he wanted to chill with Issa. However, Daniel doesn’t bother her and hugs her from behind. He then gets dressed too to go out for food, and Issa jokes about not being invited out.

He asks if she has plans for tomorrow night and Issa tells him she doesn’t know.

Lawrence learns more about his upcoming jury duty.

Lawrence is jogging with his co-workers on a track in LA. He and his co-workers are training for a marathon they are running for work. When they stop for a break, Lawrence checks to see if he has jury duty in the morning.

One of them brings up that he’s going to miss his app being pitched at work tomorrow. By the time the conversation ends, their other co-worker arrives, dead tired, falling down.

Issa and Molly talk about Daniel and Issa’s rotation.

Issa and Molly are at Mollys place working on flower arrangements for her parents vow renewal. Molly is annoyed with the renewal. Issa is invited but can’t go because of a work retreat. While hanging out with Molly, Daniel texts Issa, asking if she has any plans later that night and Issa replies she is busy. Molly notices and asks if she and Daniel are cool again.

Issa lets Molly know they are just friends with benefits.

“Daniel knows what it is.” – Issa

Molly is cool with everything, especially with Issa having a “Hoetation.”

Lawrence learns that Issa is back in communication with Daniel.

Lawrence is in the jury holding area when Derek texts him. Derek asks if he’s free on the 15th and Lawrence texts back, “Yeah.”

While he waits in the jury room to find out if he’s been selected, he hops on Facebook, scrolling down his timeline. As he is called into the courtroom, he comes across a photo of Issa and Daniel at the restaurant days ago. This gets under his skin.

Issa is at work and everyone seems out of it. Issa and Frieda are still on the outs because of Issa being okay with Vice Principal Gaines excluding his Latino high school population. She tells Frieda that black people can’t be racist. Frieda absolutely disagrees and get frustrated.

The two of them disagree about how they should approach Gaines. Frieda wants to call out his racism, and Issa wants to let it slide.

Dro sees Molly and reminds her of his proposition.

Molly is at her parents’ home and Dro is home to visit his parents too. He helps Molly carry things for the ceremony and asks about what he proposed at Kiss-n-Grind. Molly is still uncomfortable about the whole situation.

“Your a married, but open or not, it’s not how I see my life.” – Molly

Dro is cool with this.

Lawrence gets out of jury duty, in time to wrestle about his relationship with Issa.

At the jury duty, the lawyers are asking potential jurors questions. One black woman they’re asking opens up her jacket to reveal a Black Lives Matter tee, to which the black Judge replies, “Not buying it.”

As the woman sits in annoyance for not being excused, the lawyers ask to excuse Lawrence. This works for him because he is more concerned with Issa’s Facebook profile, and eventually makes his way to Daniel’s to finish snooping.

Molly meets her parents and family before the ceremony.

In Molly’s house, she’s hanging with her mom and dad, who debate why she is still single. Molly’s dad says it’s okay for her not to have low standards, and wait on the perfect guy for her.

“Molly is too special to settle for the first little ashy boy ho wants to put a ring on it.” – Molly’s father

Molly’s brothers Jerome and Curtis stop by with more supplies.

Issa enjoys her date and clears things up with Daniel.

Issa is out on her Tinder date with a Spanish guy. Meanwhile, Daniel texts her asking if she wants to get up later. She texts back she’s busy.

She eventually meets the Spanish guy who appears to be older. They get down chatting and Issa begins fantasizing about seducing him.

“I want a horchata. Easy on the chat, heavy on the whore.” – Issa

When the guy says to Issa, “Don’t worry about the drink, you’re in good hands,” Issa thinks really wild thoughts.

“Are you good with your hands? Or are you better with your d***?” – Issa

Issa then visualizes ripping the guy’s shirt open and kissing him. However, in reality, they are really just casually chatting, bringing up a DC vs Marvel Comics debate.

Daniel texts back asking her to come through, but Issa replies back that she can’t because she is busy.

Issa and the man’s date ends with the guy paying for the drinks, and leaving early because he says he has to get up for a flight early in the morning. He tells her they should go out on another day when he comes back to town.

Issa gets to the work retreat and she’s tired. She texts Daniel that she’s sorry for missing him last night. Daniel says she can make it up to him tonight. Her thoughts head back to work as she has to engage in boring work activities. However, Frieda is being passive aggressive to Issa during the activities and they end up working with other people when they split up in twosomes.

Molly introduces Dro to Lionel at the ceremony.

Everyone is setting up for Molly Parents’ ceremony and she brings Lionel as her date. Meanwhile, Dro arrives with his parents.

Molly introduces Dro and Lionel to one another and they seem cordial, with Lionel mentioning he’s tall.

Derek lets Lawrence know that he shares some blame with the relationship ending with Issa.

Lawrence and Derek sit down with drinks, and the conversation turns to Lawrence’s failed relationship with Issa. Lawrence ponders about Issa really being a stand up woman he thought she was.

“Was she playing me the whole time we were together?” – Lawrence

However, Derek reminds him that Lawrence left the door open for Issa to stray. He wasn’t handling his business in the relationship, allowing for Issa’s mind to wonder if there was better out there for her. Derek brings up how Lawrence was on unemployment for two years and not working.

“Honestly, it ain’t all on Issa. You spent two years unemployed, not working. Kind of left the door open.” – Derek

Molly learns about her father’s infidelity.

Molly is talking when her brother Curtis comes over asking about Lionel. She runs her check list down about Lionel to him and Curtis refutes each claim.

“Just because you meet some good guy, doesn’t mean you’re gonna end up like Mom and Dad. If you aren’t feeling him, then why are you with the n****?” – Curtis

Issa calls her brother about what going on at work. Her brother actually agrees with Frieda and feels she is leaving out all of the Latino kids from the program. When she hangs up with him, Neighbor-bae hits Issa up, asking for a video.

Issa sends one back but one of her co-workers walks in on Issa taking a boob shot for Neighbor-bae

As the ceremony is set to begin for Molly’s parents, she comes across her aunts, and cousin. Her aunt casually brings up how she’s surprised they lasted as long as they did.

“I didn’t think they would last 5, let alone 35… For what he put my sister through. What’s that wench’s name again?” – Aunt Kiki

This puzzles Molly, who then realizes her parent’s relationship isn’t as perfect as she thought it would be.

Issa gets into a car accident and Molly confronts her parents.

Issa is on 60th and West Blvd at the light. She’s texting “potential bae” and tells him she liked his profile pic. He sends her a d*** pick and it startles her. As a result of this, Issa runs in the back of car in front of her at the light, deploying the air bag.

When the ceremony is over, Molly is asking Curtis if her dad cheated on mom. He confirms it but lets Molly know that they got past it.

“They worked through it.” – Curtis

However, Molly is not trying to hear this and she becomes really angered by it all. Her parents hear her going off in the kitchen and confront her about it. Molly goes off on them both for keeping this from her. She also asks her mom why she would stay. She replies, “It was a long time ago and he learned from it.”

Her world is really brought down by this and she storms out.

Dro and Lionel have an eye debate of sorts of who will run after her. Eventually, Dro runs after her. He opens up her car door, letting her in. He takes her keys and hops in on the driver’s side.

Issa sets things straight with Daniel, and Dro drives Molly home, with Molly taking the plunge.

Issa’s car is totaled and she calls Daniel. Daniel asks if she’s okay and finds out where she is. Daniel insists on picking her up at the corner where the accident happened.

Lawrence is at his apartment stalking Issa’s Facebook page even further. He is going through her pictures.

Molly is being driven home by Dro, expressing her shock from finding out about her father’s infidelity. Molly expresses shock about finding out that her parents aren’t perfect. She tells him she was dumb to think she needed to find someone like her father. Dro tells her wasn’t dumb and she should find “someone that makes her feel good and happy.”

Daniel gets to the accident site and hugs Issa. After he tells her, “I got you,” Issa decides to be upfront about their situation.

She tells him she’s dating other men and figured he was dating other women.

“I want to be on the same page from the beginning.” – Issa

Daniel is cool with this and he walks her to his car.

Dro is walking Molly to her condo. When they say goodbye and he walks away, Molly walks back out and grabs his arm, pulling him in. We next see Dro and Molly making love in her bed, as the episode ends.

    1. I kind of figured it was coming. I just hate that she used her parent’s past issues as an excuse to do something she wanted to do anyway.

  1. Aye tho!!!! When Issa played delivery man and Daniel finally opened that door tho?!?! Whew!!!!!! McSteamy!!!!! Totes disappointed in Molly AND their sex scene was whack…. And I’m over Issa’s hotation.

  2. I thought it was hilarious that Lawrence was the one doing the FB snooping last night. It kind of seems like he’s where Issa was the first couple of episodes. It took him a while longer to start feeling sadness that the relationship ended and now Issa has moved on.

  3. I had hope for Molly…and she let me down. As for Issa I think she should’ve took her time and chilled the hell out..IDK what’s gonna happen wit her and Daniel (but I would definitely keep him on my roster)as for Lawrence I thought it was hilarious he was doing the “girl” thing and snooping on Issa’s social medias
