Ta’Kari Lee Defends Why She Wrote Book About Jackie Christie

Ta’kari Lee’s book, “Light to her Shadow” is coming out August 31st, and she’s been getting some backlash for it. Fans of Jackie Christie, who don’t want to see her fired for her antics on “Basketball Wives, have been critical of Ta’kari.

They feel Ta’kari, feeling this book is merely a publicity stunt and to make her mother look very bad.

In response, Ta’kari released a video explaining why she wrote the book.

In the clip, she says the following:

I am a dark-skinned, curvy woman with a speech impediment due to being born with hearing loss. While society has told young girls what the standards of beauty are for so long, I couldn’t understand why I found those same standards at home, and from the person I felt should have loved me the most.

I’m asked, “Why write a book about my mother?”

Simply put, I did not write a book about my mother, more so on the dynamic of our relationship, or the lack thereof, of a relationship.

After reprogramming myself, telling myself that I am worthy of love, that I am good enough, it was therapeutic to write everything down everything I went through to get where I am at today, and share it to whoever cares to listen.

“Light to her Shadow” is not a bashing of anyone. It’s simply me shedding light on a place of hurt no child should ever have to feel.

Check out the video below.

Many of the things she’s said on this video and will have in the book have been corroborated by her sister Chantel. Back in season 2 of “Basketball Wives LA,” Chantel sat down with Laura Govan and talked about how Jackie forced Ta’kari to run on a treadmill.

Interestingly enough, Ta’kari sends Evelyn a excerpt of the book on the season finale of “Basketball Wives.” In the clip below from the episode, Evelyn reads the excerpt aloud to Jennifer Williams and Shaunie. These excerpts bring the ladies to tears.

  1. She’s pretty. And you really have to be a f-cked up human being to drag this girl and defend Jackie.

    1. She needs to move on and get a life. It is over playing the victim. So it made her stronger why bash her mother. I hope she doesn’t sell any books.

  2. She doesn’t have to defend herself. Most of us know that Jackie is the problem and she has a right to tell her story. This is bigger than a show or ratings. This belief that black women and little black girls should be silent about their abusive mothers needs to die. We don’t have to be silent just to protect our abusers.

    1. She should have talked to her mother before writing the book. She wanted to know why she was treated that way then she should have had a conversation with her mother and not with the entire world. I look at it as a gold digger who do not have any mother and now is trying to capitalize on Jackie’s fortune. KEEP IT MOVING

      1. Jackie AIN’T GOT NO FORTUNE. She’s a gold digger who lucked up and married a baller. Period. She has no education, and I know that just from hearing her talk, and she has NO CLASS.

    2. Jackie’s daughter is the problem. She needed to talked to Jackie. Jackie is no an abusers. How do you know every word in the book is true. We were no there.

      1. 1. She did talk to her mother before writing the book. Hence, them going to therapy together on the first season of the show. But I’m sure you weren’t watching then, just like most of you new Jackie stans.

        2. I’m not sure how Ta’Kari can be a gold digger when her mother has never financially supported her. That title is actually more fitting for Jackie, the woman who married a NBA player and has no fortune of her own. She wouldn’t even be on TV if it wasn’t for Doug.

        3. I know every word TaKari says is true because Chantel said the same things about Jackie on the show. So if Jackie’s favorite daughter says it happened, it happened.

        Are we done here?

  3. I didn’t know she wasn’t allowed to write a book about her life. Especially when so many have. Whoever has a problem with her needs to check themselves.

    1. Thank you, Chelly! What is the problem with her writing a tell-all book on her past experiences and how they formed her identity today? People watch bb wives but won’t read a book about the women they so desperately want to defend. I am def going to buy and read it.

  4. I pray Takari finds peace. Honestly I can’t understand how anybody doesn’t believe her I remember when Chantel talked to Laura years ago so it didn’t surprise me when she said it herself and the fact that Jackie still refuses to address the issue either publicly or even say I’m going to reach out to my daughter in private she is just very nonchalant about it. I’m appalled and disgusted in Jackie she is just a terrible human being all around.

  5. Yeah I think I’m going to get her book. Chantel already confirmed on the show that Takari was mistreated. And their stories are the exact same. Both can’t be lying. These newer BBW fans are sick and delusional for blaming the victim in this situation.

  6. Jackie probably did mistreat her however this girl has four kids and is an unwed low income mother. When you have four kids it’s time stop worrying about the relationship with your parents and worry more about the relationship with you’re KIDS. I do feel for her however this girl ain’t went to anyone’s college, doesn’t seem to have a good job so maybe that’s an issue too she just seems lazy as hell.

    1. Did you ever think that maybe she HAS four kids and is not married because she is looking for the love that she should have gotten from her parents? That’s Jackie’s fault too! Jackie was an unwed mother obviously, because this girl is not Doug’s! I don’t hear anyone bashing Jackie for being an unwed mother, but it is ok to bash her daughter. Let’s be fair.
Another thing: I don’t know how Doug can sleep at night with that toxic witch and she does not treat her daughter the way she should. There is no way he should have allowed her to treat her daughter the way the other daughter says she was treated. That makes no sense. But we know he doesnt have a spine….look how Jackie dragged him around the league by the collar during his playing days.

  7. I feel bad for what happened to this young lady. I dont think she would be making up any of this sh-t. It is true and i know it. I hope she gets some closure out of this book. I also hope her child healed from the burns.

  8. Good for you TaKari! Jackie is toxic and if you needed to write a book to get that sh*t off your chest, do yo’ thang girl!!!! I am writing a book about my ex-husband and it is getting better with every chapter. Letting the world know that you are not the problem helps you to heal. When your book comes out, I am damn sure buying it!

  9. I’m so sick of Jackie. She’s always starting some s***. She’s tacky as hell and she says the dumbest s*** out her mouth. I’m tired of this beef with Evelyn and Jackie already, like shut the h*** up already, this has gone on too long. I don’t see anything wrong with Jackie’s daughter writing that book about her life and how Jackie treated her. And as for Shaunie she seems like she thinks that she’s better than with her stupid attitude. Malaysia just seems ditzy, Shaunie is right she doesn’t have substance. She doesn’t bring anything, nothing exciting about her. I like Tami, she’s cool and keeps it 100.
