‘Insecure’ Recap: Issa & Lawrence Confront Each Other + Molly Reaches Her Limit with Dro

Molly and Issa have another fight.

The episode opens up with Issa on the phone recapping with Molly about the incident she had with Daniel. Molly is shocked and angry about what happened.

“In your face?! Nah, n****. Nah!” – Molly

Molly wants to retaliate, suggesting they shoot Daniel in the face with eggs, but Issa just wants to move on. However, Issa feels embarrassed.

Molly also tells Issa that she is still sleeping with Dro, despite wanting to stop. Although Issa didn’t want Molly to judge her, she’s judging Molly for her transgressions.

Molly reminds Issa that she said, “Them being open was better than sneaking around.”

Issa says she was referring to Dro and Candice, not Molly and Dro.

The two of them begin to argue about who has the worse transgression.

Eventually, the conversation ends with both of them angry with one another.

Issa realizes that Gaines is interfering with his students’ success.

Issa is then on the bus and sees one of her students. He pulls out his PSAT book and Issa makes conversation, and offers him to stop by after school for tutoring. She learns from the kid that Vice Principal Gaines told him the class was full.

Lawrence is hanging with Aparna and their other co-workers. They bring up what he and Aparna did after work over the weekend. Lawrence plays coy and Aparna gives him a puzzled look.

One of them asks if they are an item, and Lawrence says that they just hung out. Aparna sarcastically replies, “Yep, that’s what I said.”

Molly is hanging out with her Chicago colleague in his town, and he asks her about her meeting to ask about a raise. As they share Garrett’s popcorn, she says she is ready.

“I really hope they know what they got.” – Molly

He then tells her he will be in LA in a few weeks and wants to hang out when he gets there.

Lawrence explains himself to Aparna and she supports him.

Meanwhile, Lawrence stops by Aparna’s desk to talk about what happened with their co-workers earlier. She plays it off, saying “It’s cool.”

Lawrence then says he didn’t want them in their business, and she replies, “Do we have business?”

Lawrence explains how he was burned in the past concerning his past relationships. Aparna says she understands. He then asks if they are still on for drinks and she jokingly says yes.

Issa heads to Frieda’s desk to explain the she was right and she wrote down ideas on how to increase involvement from Latino students.

Frieda is relieved to hear this from her and also apologizes for not be the best co-worker either lately.

Dro lets Molly know that Candice will be coming to Derek’s party.

Dro is bringing in groceries into Molly’s apartment, and asks if she wants her key back. Molly says, “keep it,” and they kiss.

She then gives him popcorn as a gift, and Dro asks about Derek’s birthday party. He also mentions that Candice will be there.

Molly sighs at this and, Dro hugs her to assure Molly everything will be fine.

Issa finds out that Lawrence will be at the party too.

Montage scene occurs where Tiffany is texting Issa about the party, letting Issa know that Lawrence will be there.

Issa screenshots the message, sending it Molly, asking if she knew about this. Molly replies she didn’t and makes sure Issa is going to go. Issa then goes to Facebook and finds out that Lawrence blocked her.

Issa then goes into a mental rap over her anger of this sudden revelation.

You fixed your p**** a*** fingers to block me, my n****?

5 years by your side and I’m just a button my n****?”

She texts Tiffany, however, and tells her she will be at the party.

Molly has her meeting at her law firm about a raise.

The next day, Molly has her meeting with the Partners at her firm. She laid out her accomplishments, including nailing a client that could net the firm $2 Million dollars.

Despite this, the firm isn’t ready to give Molly a raise at this point. They tell her they will revisit the possibility during her yearly review.

Issa is passing out flyers to students as they are getting on buses, and confronts Vice Principal Gaines. Issa tells them that they are looking for more Latino students to sign up. Frieda also joins them, and backs up Issa.

Gaines scoffs at Issa, saying, “Now you’re coming at me on some All Lives Matter? If you want Mexicans, nobody’s stopping you.”

Lawrence tells Aparna about the party and Issa breaks things off with Daniel.

Lawrence runs into Aparna and lets her know about the party and that Issa will be there. Aparna suggests they go to the party together.

When Issa is getting ready for the party, Daniel calls to apologize. Issa tells him what he did was messed up and he embarrassed her.

Daniel gets Issa to forgive him but then things turn left, when he says, “I guess we’re even now.”

“You did this on purpose, on some f***ed up revenge s***?” – Issa

Daniel tells her it’s not really like that but he does feel like she did him wrong regrading the Lawrence situation. She tells Daniel to never call her again, hangs up on him and slams her phone on the counter.

She then runs to her brother’s car (he’s her plus one for the party), slamming the car door. Her brother asks whats wrong, and she replies, “N*****!”

The guests are arriving to the party and Molly is hanging with Kelli and Sweetie. Candice and Derek arrive and Molly gets really awkward. The awkwardly exchange a hug and Molly spills her drink. They make awkward small talk as Dro gets Molly another drink.

Issa and Lawrence confront each other, and Molly hooks up with Dro while Candice is at the party.

The party starts and Tiffany gave everyone assigned seats. She forces Molly to follow the seating placement, which is on the other end from Dro and Candice.

Issa and her brother arrive and Issa decides not to drink at first. She sits next to Molly and they blandly exchange pleasantries. Lawrence then arrives with Aparna and the table turns quiet, except for Kelli who says, “No this n*gga didn’t!” Derek gets a chair and has them sit next to Tiffany, on the opposite end from Issa.

Lawrence then introduces them to Aparna, and Aparna jokes, “Or you can call me random girl who shows up uninvited.”

That joke breaks the ice and everyone calms down. Issa then orders a whiskey.

Molly gets frustrated as she can’t join in on conversations with Dro and Candice, and Issa reacts to how Lawrence answers questions.

When someone asks him how he knows the couple of the night, he says they are friends of his ex, and the person awkwardly figures out Issa is his ex.

Issa then gets up from the table, and then Lawrence follows her after Molly urges him to via eye contact. Lawrence tries to explain what happened once he gets outside to face Issa, and Issa replies, “You’re so full of s***.”

An argument happens, and Issa calls out Lawrence for parading Aparna around and blocking her on Facebook. Lawrence says he blocked her because he was tired of seeing her and Daniel together in pictures.

“I was tired of seeing pictures of you and the n**** you f*cked while we were together.” – Lawrence

He then asks if he is still sleeping with Daniel, and she asks, “Why do you care?”

“Of course, so you’re still f***ing him. Who else did you f*** while we were together?”

Issa then calls Lawrence out for sleeping with her while he was dating Tasha. However, Lawrence has another comeback, hitting below the belt.

“Cause being some fake-a** producer’s jump-off is better? I bet that n**** is a real f***ing gentleman.” – Lawrence

“He’s got way more going on than Woot Woot.” – Issa

She then goes in on Lawrence, bringing up how she supported him while he was on unemployment. But Lawrence had one more comeback.

“Was it worth all that time I spent supporting your depressed a***?” – Issa

“Probably not as much time as you spent being a f***ing ho.” – Lawrence

Aparna then comes down and she and Lawrence leave, and Issa looks distraught.

Afterwards, Dro excuses himself to the bathroom and Molly is not too far behind him. She tries to break it off with him, after seeing him and Candice together.

However, the two hook up in the bathroom after he tells her they still have something special, despite him being married. When they finish, he comes out first and tells her to come out a few moments later so they won’t be obvious. This shames Molly.

When she comes out, she sees Issa and Issa fixes her dress and hair. Molly then yanks off the tag on her dress. Both quickly acknowledge each other’s transgressions with eye contact.

Aparna and Lawrence are in a car and Lawrence is still angry. Aparna consoles him and suggests they still go for drinks. He agrees and they head that way.

Molly finally gets answers from her mom.

Molly calls her mom outside of the party, and gets her to explain about what happened with her dad cheating. Her mom explains that she never got over it but their love outweighed the cheating.

“This is gonna sound really stupid, but I just loved him. I never have got past [the hurt], but he mad me feel special more than he hurt me.” – Molly’s mom.

When they get drinks, Aparna and Lawence embrace and share a kiss. Next, Molly gets a text from Dro, and she replies that she “can’t do this anymore.” Lastly, Issa gets home, sees a notice on her door about rent increasing. She tears up the notice and trashes her apartment.

  1. Lawrence does a lot of projection and doesn’t take responsibility for his role in things. Yes, Issa is wrong for cheating. But he was wrong for living on her couch for two years while she paid the bills.

  2. I just don’t know how Lawrence could call Issa a ho when he just had a flop thr-esome with chicks he met just that day.

  3. But Issa IS a hoe. She’s the one who wanted to have a hoetation and a hoe phase. So I don’t see an issue with Lawrence pointing out the obvious. Now maybe she will remember why being a hoe ain’t all that.

    1. Yeah I mean she did say she wanted to be a hoe now that Lawrence left. I just hope she’s seeing that sleeping around isn’t really for her. It’s for some women but it’s not for her and never will be. She’s a relationship kind of woman. She’s most comfortable being serious with one person. Now is Lawrence that person? The longer the season goes on, I’m starting to think he isn’t.

  4. I’m getting annoyed by this show. It’s like Lawrence keeps having all this good luck and Issa can’t have any kind of happiness. Maybe it’s self sabotage but I would like to see her happy for once. Damn.
