LHHMIA Recap: Amara Battles Colorism as an Afro Latina Rapper + Trina Clashes with Her Cousin

Amara La Negra hits the stage.

She’s a Dominican rapper and she’s ready for her career to be taken to the next level.

Her mom came to USA 20 years ago and made a lot of sacrifices for her. Amara wants to pay her back by being successful.

She wants to cross over into the American market.

Amara feels she doesn’t look “a certain type of way,” so she knows she will have to work harder.

Veronica Vega is another Latina artist that she talks to for support.

Young Hollywood, a producer, comes by to speak to Amara. They were supposed to have a business meeting but Amara says her mother must attend the meeting too.

Young Hollywood agrees to it.

Gunplay turns a new leaf in Miami.

Gunplay is happy that he moved back to Miami but his girlfriend Keyara didn’t want him to. She feels he will just get into trouble. But he says he’s a changed man so it shouldn’t be an issue.

He catches up with Trick Daddy and they talk music.

Gunplay wants Trick to be on his upcoming album and Trick agrees to this. Trick is working on a collaboration album with Trina and he wants Gunplay on it.

Shay Johnson has moved on from Lil Scrappy.

She’s moved to Miami to be with her current boo of two years, Pleasure P of Pretty Ricky.

Shay is happy because Pleasure treats her good and claims her.

Pleasure P tells her that Pretty Ricky is getting back together. He feels they left a lot of hits on the table but Shay thinks he’s the true star of the group.

She’s not happy about the reunion because it will mean he won’t spend much time with her anymore. Despite Shay’s soured feelings on the subject, Pleasure P is sure that a reunion needs to happen.

Bobby Lytes struggles being an openly gay rapper from Miami.

He feels he has to work twice as hard because people are always judging him because he’s into men.

Trick Daddy and Trina perform together, Trina clashes with Bobby.

They tell the crowd to be on the lookout for their upcoming album together.

Bobby tries to get into the venue, but is told by security that he’s not on the list. He tells the security that Trina is his cousin. The security lets him in and he says Trina is his first cousin in a green screen interview.

Trina isn’t happy to see him because he didn’t wear all white to an all white event.

In a green screen interview, Trina says Bobby frustrates her because he’s always causing drama.

The producers flashback to a time when Bobby was in the parking lot fighting at a club.

Pleasure P meets with the rest of Pretty Ricky, they argue over who contributed the most to the group’s success.

They immediately start discussing about who put in more work while the group was successful.

This frustrates Pleasure P and he gets into a shouting match with Baby Blue Whoaaaa.

Everyone finally calms down and they decide to focus on their upcoming performance.

Young Hollywood gets in the studio with Amara and pushes her buttons.

He was turned off somewhat by her bringing her mom to the meeting but he wants to work with her anyway.

He tells her she needs to be more Beyonce than Macy Gray. He says she should be more elegant.

“So I can’t be elegant if I have a fro?” – Amara

She tells him she embraces being Afro Latina.

He’s confused by this and she clarifies that she’s a Latina but still black.

“Not all Latinas look like J-Lo…so where are the women who look like myself?” – Amara

After she says this, Young Hollywood then mocks her by raising the black power fist in the air.

“You’re just so intense about this whole African thing.” – Young Hollywood

He tells her he didn’t mean to offend but she’s “psychotic.” Amara has had enough and walks out the studio.

“F*ck you.” – Amara

Keyara tells Gunplay to be on his best behavior.

Gunplay says he’s thinking about working with female rapper Miami Tip. Keyara, his girlfriend, tells him to keep his d*ck in his pants. In a green screen interview, Gunplay says they slept together in the past.

He doesn’t think he should tell Keyara this.

Shay comes by Pretty Ricky’s performance and clashes with the group.

“I am here to support one individual, Pleasure. He is Pretty Ricky. Without him, they wouldn’t be sh*t.” – Shay

Shay’s attitude angers Baby Blue Whoaaaa and he claps back at her.

“Bruh, where you find that hoe at? A halfway house? You so tired. Shut yo a-s up.” – Shay

In a green screen interview, Shay says she doesn’t appreciate the way the rest of the group treated Pleasure in the past. For that reason, she won’t be playing nice with any of them.

Pleasure doesn’t like Shay’s behavior because he feels the group won’t be able to move on from the past if she keeps bringing it up.

Shay gets upset with Pleasure because she feels like he’s not taking up for her and allowing his group members to disrespect her.

Spectacular tells Shay that she started the drama by coming for the rest of the group first.

“You cannot be disrespectful.” – Pleasure P

Shay tells Spectacular and Pleasure P that she’s not coming for them but Baby Blue Whoaaaa.

“I’m not disrespecting you and I’m not disrespecting you. But I’m disrespecting your weak a*s, fat a*s, funky a*s, pregnant a*s looking a*s n*gga.” – Shay

This is the last straw for Pleasure and he walks away from her. Shay throws some verbal jabs his way for not defending her.

“You weak a*s b*tch!” – Shay

Bobby Lytes gets into it with Trina’s assistant.

Miami Tip convinces Bobby to go to lunch with her so he can work things out with Trina, who will also be in attendance.

When Bobby gets to the table, he clashes with Trina’s assistant Alvin.

“I don’t even want to be fake. I don’t want to sit at the table with this b*tch. Like why did you invite him here?” – Alvin

“What is the problem?” – Miami Tip

“Bobby, you are a motherf*cking bum. You are beneath me b*tch, and you will always be.” – Alvin

Bobby throws a drink at Alvin and lounges at him.

Security intervenes and Bobby and Trina have a conversation outside.

Bobby tells her he’s tired of her not accepting him as an artist and as a family. But Trina isn’t hearing it because she feels he’s very messy.

She feels he doesn’t respect her brand or empire by fighting with her staff. But Bobby feels Alvin was disrespectful and refuses to respect that he is Trina’s blood.

Bobby then tells Trina that he will make it in the music business on his own and he doesn’t need her help.

  1. I like this show better than NY already. Except Shay being hella extra, the queen was funny but fighting in every episode? He got annoying fast! The darkskinned Latina chick is so beautiful! I like her energy. The Pretty Ricky group although I remember them, they look so much different than I remember. good to see them trying to get back together though. All in all I’m sure all the lines were scripted but it didn’t look forced and completely set up like New York, so I’ll definitely give it a couple of more episodes and see how much I like it but so far so good. Oh and let’s not forget about the baddest b*tch Trina always good to see her!
