Mo’Nique Calls Out Charlamagne Tha God Amid Netflix Boycott
Earlier this week, Mo’Nique and her husband Sidney have been encouraging their fans and followers to boycott Netflix after their negotiations for a comedy special fell through. They’ve expressed Netflix tried to woefully under pay the actress and comedian, and there are a few that openly disagreed with the proposition.
This includes many prominent African-American men including Steve Harvey and Charlamagne. In fact, both men have critical things to say about Mo’s boycott.
As a result, Mo’ and Sidney have been addressing these and other critics over the past week. On their Periscope podcast, they spoke to these men and Tony Rock, who also spoke against the boycott, and Sidney openly wondered if they respect the struggles of black women. Sidney even asked if they would feel the same way if their sister led the boycott.
Brother Steve [Harvey], brother Tony [Rock], brother Charlamagne the God… They are awake to what they are awake to. But they are sleeping on this, because the question someone would ask them is this… If they love their mama, if they loved their sister… Do you think that they would tell you anything in reference to the place to the plights that they have being women and women of color where there were some disparity.
And you as Steve Harvey, as Tony Rock and Charlemagne The God had opportunity to fix the disparities that your mom, or your sister, or your auntie, or your daughters might experience. The question is would you do could to stop the disparity?
And if your answer is yes, they’re staying with us…
Later on, Mo’Nique specifically confronts Charlamagne, and the “Donkey of the Day” he gave her. She says this occurred because he doesn’t respect black women.
When it comes to brother Charlamagne, when I heard him call me “Donkey of the Day,” this is the same brother that got on the elevator of the Mo’Nique Show, and was very respectful. And I said to him, give your mama a hug for me, cause she raised you right. And that baby looked at me and said, “Yes ma’am.”
And we had a beautiful moment.
So to hear this young man call me a Donkey of the Day, I would say to him why do you have so much hatred towards black women? Because that’s what that is; you can’t cut it, you can’t slice it, you can’t dice it. It’s hatred towards your sisters.
