Mo’Nique Stands by Urging Fans to Boycott Netflix

On Friday, Mo’Nique revealed that she wants her fans to boycott Netflix.

The comedian and Oscar-winning actress was in the process of inking a deal with the company for a stand up special.

But a failed deal resulted in her accusing them of not paying black woman that they’ve paid others.

In a video clip that went viral, Mo’Nique detailed how Netflix offered her $500,000 for a comedy special while allegedly, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer received millions more for their specials.

When Mo’Nique posted the clip to her Instagram account, her fan base appeared to be divided. While quite a few of them appeared to fully support Mo, others fell this boycott is not necessary. This group felt that Mo’Nique didn’t deserve what she felt she did for a comedy special.

Many of them actually commented on her post saying that she hasn’t been around enough to maintain her fan base to demand the money she wanted.

Some even feel that her going after Lee Daniels, Oprah and Tyler Perry affected her.

When they left these comments, Mo’Nique responded.

    1. When Rosa Parks sat down in the front of the bus that day, it was because HER feet hurt. However, her “selfish activism” helped all of us didn’t it? Black people have to want more. Stop settling.

  1. Mess. Mo’Nique still doesn’t realize that her biggest setback is her husband. Does she think she’s the only black woman who is underpaid and low balled? We all go through it. Famous or not. Taraji is out here getting booked left and right and she’s underpaid. But what did she do? Well she’s executively producing films so she can actually open doors for other black actresses. The more experience she gets, the more likely she can keep making movies and hire other black women and actually pay them well! Burning bridges isn’t helping Mo’Nique or black actresses at all. You learn the game and exploit it to advance you and your people. Why doesn’t Mo’Nique understand that?

  2. Monique I thought you were smarter than this. Get your paper, hustle hard, build and keep getting money. As long as you are complaining and causing problems you are not going to get what you want.

  3. MoNique gets on my last nerves but I can’t be mad at her for wanting to be paid more when basic white comedians like Amy Schumer make millions and aren’t even funny. But what she has to remember is Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock are both a rarity. Black people as a whole are underpaid in every industry, including Hollywood.

  4. People need to do their research. What’s happening to Mo’Nique is happening to black women everywhere. Somebody brought up Taraji but she ain’t getting paid either. And it’s not ok.

  5. UB you should do a post on her interview with Sway. That will make a lot of people retract what they are saying. We should all demand more. Time to stop settling for mediocrity. I stand with Mo.

  6. It’s so funny how some of these folks on here say they won’t boycott Netflix, but they’ll boycott H&M, Houston’s, Target, Walmart, and any other organization that offends us. People and their selective pro-blackness/activism kills me sometimes. Monique may be a bit abrasive, but she has a point here. I guess Netflix n chill is too much for some of us to sacrifice.
