Watch: LeBron James Says His Money Doesn’t Protect Him From Racism

ESPN’s Cari Champion hosted a segment in which she drove LeBron James and Kevin Durant around LeBron’s hometown Akron, Ohio. Throughout the segment, Kevin and LeBron touched on multiple topics on and off the court, Including racism and Donald Trump.

During the conversation with Kevin and Cari, LeBron brought up how the N-word was spray painted on his property in his LA-area home.

LeBron says that the incident let him know that no amount of money can insulate him from the racist actions of others.

I’m a black man with a bunch of money, and having a crib in Brentwood. Having the word N***er spray-painted over my gate…

That’ll let you know that I’m not too far removed, and I still have a lot more work to do.

No matter how far… money or access, or how you become in life as an African-American man, or female, they will always try to figure out a way to let you know that you’re still beneath them. And, its one or two things that’ll happen. You’ll either cave to that notion, or you’ll just chalk it up and say, “You know what… Ima paint over this God d*** gate and make it taller.
