‘Fix My Life’ Recap: Kidnap Victim Kamiyah Threatens to Attack Iyanla + Father Goes off on Facebook

Iyanla meets Kamiyah, a woman whose mom kidnapped her at birth.

The day begins when Iyanla opens the door and meets with Kamiyah. When they first sit down, Iyanla asks Kamiyah her name. Kamiyah replies she goes by Alexis or Kamiyah. When asked which one she prefers, Kamiyah says, “I am not sure.”

After this conversation, Iyanla says she has no clue who she is.

She’s concerned that Kamiyah cannot speak out her pain. Kamiyah tells Iyanla that her biological mother doesn’t want to come for the intervention.

Kamiyah explains to Iyanla that she and her biological mom don’t talk.

She then explained how she found out about when her mom wasn’t her birth mother when she applied for a job and couldn’t get her birth certificate. Her mom also called her Alexis or “Lexi,” not Kamiyah.

Kamiyah tries to get out of talking about how she feels but Iyanla presses her about this, calmly.

Iyanla tells her that she’s going to have to confront this because her mom, who raised her, is in jail.

“How could your mother not show up for you today?” – Iyanla

Iyanla’s goal is to have her talk about the old one. When asked who her mom is, Kamiyah says she has two mothers. Iyanla doesn’t like this answer.

“No you don’t. You have one mother.” – Iyanla

She then explained to Kamiyah how she found out, at age 30, her mom wasn’t her birth mother.

“You’re 19. I’m much excited you get to do this sooner than later.” – Iyanla

Iyanla introduces Kamiyah to her room, in preparation for a rebirth.

Later on, Iyanla brings Kamiyah into a room with a picture of a womb on the wall. Iyanla seeks to rebirth Kamiyah, but she feels her life was fine before her mom went to jail.

Iyanla asks if she feels her mom should be in jail, and she says no.

“This is a girl whose entire life is shattered.” – Iyanla

Suddenly, Iyanla goes and gets a blanket to wrap Kamiyah with. She tells Kamiyah that she should have compassion for both women.

Despite this, Kamiyah still hasn’t talked her birth mother yet, since contacting the show. Iyanla says she will call her if she can admit to being okay with Kamiyah loving her mom.

Iyanla learns Craig, Kamiyah’s biological dad, doesn’t want Kamiyah to have a relationship with Gloria.

Next, Iyanla meets with Craig, Kamiyah’s birth father. He was 24 and Kamiyah’s mom was 16 when their daughter was born.

Craig explains Kamiyah’s relationship with the woman who took her from them hurts. He’s trying to stop the relationship between Kamiyah and the woman. However, Iyanla says this won’t happen.

“You gonna lose your daughter.” – Iyanla

Iyanla then explains that they must be okay with Kamiyah having a relationship with Gloria, the woman who took her.

She then has Craig, his wife and Kamiyah’s boyfriend to write down things they know about Kamiyah. She then takes the items to Kamiyah.

They talk about what her father said about her. She called her outspoken. Iyanla also tells her he is mad she still has a relationship with Gloria.

Iyanla explains her birth parents have had a fantasy relationship over their desire to know Kamiyah.

Later on, Iyanla brings over a paper Kamiyah wrote before the show. In the letter, she wrote how her birth mother would get mad when she posts photos of Gloria and her on Facebook.

Iyanla then pastes the words alone, lost, blind and shut down to the painting of the womb. She still wants her to talk about Alexis.

Kamiyah goes off when Iyanla tries to break her down.

At this point, Iyanla goes back to meet with Craig and his wife, and Kamiyah’s boyfriend. Iyanla confronts the fact that Craig and Kamiyah’s mother are hurting her because of their opinion of Gloria.

Craig tells Iyanla, “I gave her time.”

“That girl is in trouble, and time ain’t what she needs.” – Iyanla

As a result, Iyanla wants to make Kamiyah angry enough to talk about things or break her down.

Craig asks why and Iyanla tells him she needs to stir Kamiyah up inside to get her to start talking about her pain.

She tells them not to answer her calls when she calls them.

“She’s getting ready to go into surgery and you can’t go.” – Iyanla

He then asks, “What if you’re wrong?”

“What do we have to lose?” – Iyanla

Craig and everyone reluctantly agree to the terms. When Kamiyah learns of the plan, things seem okay at first.

Although she isn’t being forced to stay, Kamiyah doesn’t like the terms. When told Craig or her boyfriend won’t pick up when she calls, Kamiyah snaps.

“I need them to come and get me. If he doesn’t come and get me, we’re gonna have a problem.” – Kamiyah

Her anger builds up to the point, where Kamiyah walks out of the room.

Kamiyah calls someone going off angrily. Iyanla says this anger needed to be expressed for her to be healed.

She also yells at the producers to get out of her face. When Iyanla comes to her on the porch, Kamiyah yells at her. Iyanla tells Kamiyah, “Being disrespectful wasn’t on the list.”

This really set her off, and she throws a water bottle against the wall on the porch.

“You put me in a place to be disrespectful! Because I did not tell you that I was not staying here!” – Kamiyah

Iyanla says she isn’t upset with her, she’s yelling at Gloria, Craig and her birth mother. She walks off when Kamiyah tells her to get out of her face, calling her a b****. So Iyanla walks off saying, “That’s what we need to see.”

Iyanla walks to see Craig to tell them that Kamiyah is a “ticking time bomb.”

She also wants to know where this bout of anger came from. Craig didn’t know where it came from because he hasn’t seen it.

She also says that if all of them don’t face this, there isn’t any hope for Kamiyah to get past this.

“She’s gotta deal with it.” – Iyanla

Iyanla walks away from Kamiyah and Craig.

Craig tries to talk to Kamiyah later on, but this does nothing to stop her rage. In fact, Kamiyah crosses the line threatening to stab Iyanla.

“I’ll stab the f*** out this b****.” – Kamiyah

Iyanla tries to reason with Craig and he says she’s venting.

At this point, Kamiyah jumps in saying, “don’t nobody need to address it, because you’ll get hit.”

“How about that?” – Kamiyah

She then goes in on Iyanla’s looks, saying she looks like a man. Iyanla finally claps her hands and walks off.

“I’m done.” – Iyanla

As she walks away, Kamiyah begins to yell at Craig demanding to know why would he leave her. She also hits her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Iyanla seems to have just washed her hands of the situation.

“There comes just a moment when you have to let go. I don’t have to fight you for your healing. She’s not ready. And they don’t have the skills and the tools needed to give her what she needs.” – Iyanla

Check out the scene below.

On what would’ve been day two, Iyanla meets with Carlina White who was also abducted. Carlina found she was abducted at 23. She was 16 when she found out her mom wasn’t her birth mother.

When she found out, Carlina didn’t believe it. She said she was “numb.” She wanted to see how she feels mentally.

Carlina thinks she is running away from her feelings about everything.

At the end, Iyanla says Kamiyah is alone in the world, full of pain. She then reads a letter she wrote, wishing her biological mom showed up for healing.

Craig explains his side of what happened during filming.

After the show, neither Craig or Kamiyah returned producer’s phone calls.

As the episode aired, Craig went live on Facebook to talk about the experience being on the show. He explained that much of the scene of Kamiyah going off was “poorly” edited.

Craig explained Iyanla’s son actually got in Kamiyah’s face, demanding she stop threatening to stab Iyanla. This caused Iyanla to stop filming and they were removed from the premises.

Iyanla and production also cancelled their hotel room and they had to drive back to Jacksonville, Florida in a thunderstorm.

He also feels like Iyanla’s method of healing Kamiyah was poorly planned and her anger was justified.

  1. Her father is an enabler. He wasn’t even willing to restrain her and calm her down. Then he gets on Facebook and tries to justify her actions.

  2. Iyanla’s son has every right to defend his mother. Especially when this young lady’s father acted like he was scared of her and did nothing to diffuse the situation. This was disturbing to watch.

  3. I’m not sure how anyone can justify their child threatening to stab an elder. I don’t always like Iyanla’s methods, but Kamiyah was out of line. She needs help but her anger was just way too much for me. I think she had anger issues well before she found out she was kidnapped.

  4. Her a-s needs therapy but I doubt anyone in her life is going to make sure she gets it. They ain’t nothing but enablers.

  5. I’m trying to be positive on this beautiful Sunday but this episode pissed me off. if Iyanla was my mom I would have knocked that little girl out. She was MAD disrespectful! She is going to run up on the wrong person one day!

  6. Anyone else notice how the step mom’s body language was off from start? She had her arms folded and was rolling her eyes while Iynala talked most of the time. I knew then that this wasn’t going to work out.

  7. Ratchet. The whole episode. I get what Iyanla was trying to do but yeah it’s a no for me dawg. She basically kidnapped a kidnapping victim. Wrong approach. But I definitely think Kamiyah was way out of line. I don’t know how Iyanla kept her cool because I would not have.

  8. So they called Iyanla asking to be on the show and then got mad at how she went about doing everything? Have they not seen the show? LOL.

  9. This girl behaved like a classless hood booger. I get that she is angry but she was angry with the wrong person. Iyanka handled it well. The dad was an enabler.

  10. This young lady is lost, hurt, confused and wounded. She doesn’t know what to do or how to behave. She is completely numb. Iyanla did a great job however, she truly needs deeper counseling. Its almost like she is suffering from PTSD. Losing the only mom she ever knew to prison and now also having her own biological mom abandon her is probably more than she can handle. I believe the whole family needs counseling.

  11. Everyone jumps right past Ilayna’s professional obligation to her son protecting her. She tried to get the girl close to her, giving her options and immediately made contrary decisions for her! Ilyana was out of her lane to cut the only lifelines this young woman had in place.

Ilyana has been exposed for the hack she is! If I were her Dad she would be hearing from a gang of lawyers. For sure she ain’t no Dr Phil!

  12. I didn’t watch the episode and, ironically, I’m reading this on the day I finally allowed myself to post an Iyanla quote on my Instagram, lol. I don’t dislike her personally and I’ll stop short of calling her a fraud, but I’m not into her whole wise guru bit at all. From reading this post, it is clear she wasn’t qualified to handle a young woman in such a fragile and emotional state. In fact, it sounds like she mostly mishandled her from start to finish. She had the nerve to say that the family doesn’t have the skills and tools they need to help this woman, but it looks like Iyanla doesn’t have the skills or tools either.
