‘The Quad’ Recap: Eva is Pushed out + GAMU Students Make Drastic Last Stand

Sydney has had it with Eva.

After walking in on Jason and Sydney having a passionate moment in the kitchen, Eva is refusing to let Sydney leave her house without getting some answers.

“How long do you plan to hold me hostage?” – Sydney

Sydney gets irritated with her mother which forces Eva to come clean about her past with Jason. She even admits she had an affair with him.

“He is using you to hurt me.” – Eva

“Well, he was just a quick fling. And he wasn’t even that good.” – Sydney

She tells Eva she won’t see Jason ever again. Sydney then takes a verbal jab at her mother.

“Now I understand why daddy was mad all the time. He was married to a complete whore.” – Sydney

Eva slaps her and Sydney says she wants nothing else to do with her mother “ever.” She walks out in a huff. An angry Eva leaves Jason a threatening voicemail. She lets him know she will be going after him.

Right after, she gets a phone call about Carlton’s wife. She had a heart attack suddenly and passed away.

When Eva gets to Carlton’s house, Cecil won’t allow her inside. He says he’s screening visits for his close friend.

Although this is irritating for Eva, she leaves without a fight.

Cedric and BoJohn get visits from their parents.

Back at Cedric’s dorm, Bryce says they should check on Carlton. But Cedric says Cecil said he would contact them when the time is right.

His mother comes over not too long after their conversation, and Bryce leaves them alone to talk.

Cedric tells his mom that Browyn is getting rid of the baby. She urges him to contact her and see how she’s doing. She makes it clear she doesn’t think he should have the baby because he can’t afford it.

BoJohn is also getting a visit from his parents. His dad tells him that he will have to stay at GAMU, and his mother says he should apologize. Hs dad then agrees and says it’s because BoJohn is “crazy.”

This causes BoJohn to snap and tell his dad that he’s crazy because of him.

His mother then forces his dad to go outside so she can calm BoJohn down.

She lays him on the bed and makes him take deep breaths and talks him through it.

The students rally for the fate of EW Hall.

When Eva gets back to the campus, Noni, Cedric, Bryce, Miles and other students are there to vent about the future of EW Hall.

Noni asks Eva if she knows about the grant that relies on EW Hall being renovated and renamed, something they are concerned about.

They all urge Eva to take “one last stand” to prevent the merger.

Cedric’s mother, Beretta, visits Browyn.

She tells Browyn that she’s not her enemy and she’s just there to see what Browyn needs.

However, Browyn says she has no idea what she needs. But Cedric is an “a*shole guy,” so she can’t make decisions based off him.

Her parents still have no idea she’s even pregnant.

Beretta applies the pressure and pushes Browyn to commit to terminating the pregnancy. She even tells her that Cedric isn’t ready to be a father. Cedric’s mother even tells Browyn that she will go with her to the clinic.

Browyn thanks her and cries as Beretta consoles her.

Later on, Eva and some GAMU students visit the billionaire and ASU alumni who plans to purchase EW Hall and renovate/rename it.

He tells them that he believes the merger will be good for GAMU. However, he will allow the GAMU students to take a vote.

They are not pleased with this response.

Coach Hardwick gets a visit from BoJohn.

BoJohn says he’s not crazy and Coach tells hm that he needs help. He scheduled BoJohn an appointment with the therapist on campus.

While out for a bite to eat, Beretta lets Cedric know about her conversation with Browyn. She urges him that it’s best that the pregnancy be terminated.

He tells her it’s fine because he doesn’t want to be a father right now anyway. However, he looks slightly disappointed and she sees this.

Eva has a discussion with the board of ASU. She tells them that EW Smith Hall can’t be renamed out of respect for EW Smith.

She is told that they do not feel she is the right leader for GAMU because she met with students behind their backs.

They are pushing for her resignation at the end of the school year. Eva refuses to resign and says that the GAMU board will have to push her out.

“If they want me out, they will have to fire me.” – Eva

Carlton is still in shock about the loss of his wife.

However, he pushes himself through to make her funeral the way he feels she would have wanted it.

He picks out her casket and floral arrangements.

In his office, Coach Hardwick replays killing his wife’s debtor and Terrence’s death.

When Eva returns to campus, it is announced that the board is firing Eva after the semester is over. Cedric and the rest of the students begin to clash over what to do next.

But Cedric suggests they go to Eva’s office and make their voices heard.

Eugene checks on Eva and she tells him that she’s fine. He says he doesn’t buy it because he’s not always honest about his feelings either.

She tells him that in addition to the professional drama, Sydney is still not talking to her.

When the coach tries to dig into Eva’s history with Jason, she urges him to change the topic of conversation.

Coach Hardwick has an honest moment, Cedric changes his mind.

Cedric has a nightmare. In the nightmare, his mother tells him he can’t be a father, and he strongly argues that he can.

He awakens to his phone ringing and it’s his mother. She tells him she’s on the way to the clinic with Browyn.

After this call, he struggles to go back to sleep. It appears he may have changed his mind about being okay with her terminating the pregnancy.

Coach Hardwick drops off BoJohn to see a therapist, but struggles himself mentally once he leaves. So he calls for a referral to a therapist/psychologist for himself.

Browyn and Beretta are in the clinic when Cedric busts in. He tells them that God may want him to be a father. Browyn says that Beretta told him that Cedric doesn’t want to be a father. He gets angry and says that is not what he said.

He doesn’t back down and tells Beretta she can’t make that decision for them.

Cedric tells Browyn she shouldn’t do something they will both regret.

“I’m scared Cedric.” – Browyn

At this point, Cedric promises he will be there for their kid. He tells her his dad died when he was four, so he wants to be there.

He is then escorted out by security.

Browyn cries as she is asked to go to the back for her appointment.

Carlton breaks down.

Carlton looks at old pictures of his wife so he can put the funeral program together.

He hears a knock on the door and it’s Cecil.

Although Cecil wants to make Carlton feel better, Carlton goes off on him and says he doesn’t need to be babysat. He’s over all his friends and fraternity brothers checking in on him because he can’t learn how to live without his wife that way.

As Cecil begins to leave, Carlton falls apart and breaks down crying.

Cecil sits next to him and tears up too.

The students make a drastic decision.

Now that it’s been made clear to them that the billionaire investor will get a grant to renovate and rename EW Smith Hall, they have all decided to come together and burn down the building.

They don’t want EW’s legacy to be disrespected.

Eva gets a note about this after they begin the process. She rushes out of her house to stop them but is too late. But it’s clear that Sydney, Noni, Madison, Cedric, Miles, Bryce and others stand by their decision. Eva looks on as the building burns and the students walk away.

  1. For them to fire Eva when she cares about the school as much as she does is so stupid to me. You want a president who actually cares about the school.

  2. Cedric’s mom was so out of line. My heart ached for Carton and I don’t even like his character.
