Beyonce Announces New Scholarship for Students of HBCUs + Miss Tina Spills Tea

Today, Beyoncé, through her BeyGOOD initiative, announces the four schools to receive the newly established Homecoming Scholars Award Program for the 2018-2019 academic year for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The scholarship is specially for students that attend Bethune-Cookman, Tuskegee, Xavier and Wilberforce. The program will select one student from each school. The students will receive a $25,000 scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year.

This is the second year for a scholars program created by Beyoncé.

The Homecoming Scholars Award Program for 2018-2019 will expand to all qualifying students at the four universities, regardless of gender. The disciplines will include literature, creative arts, African American studies, science, education, business, communications, social sciences, computer science and engineering. All applicants must maintain a 3.5 GPA or above. All finalists and winners will be selected by the universities. Winners will be announced this summer.

In other news, Beyoncé mom Tina Lawson revealed that she wasn’t sure the Coachella crowd would understand the kind of performance Bey put on Saturday Night. In fact, she was worried that it would not be understood.

She then continued via Instagram:

Her brave response to me made me feel a-bit selfish and ashamed. She said I have worked very hard to get to the point where I have a true voice and At this point in my life and my career. I have a responsibility to do whats best for the world and not what is most popular.

[Beyoncé] said that her hope is that after the show young people would research this culture and see how cool it is, and young people black and white would listen to “LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING,” and see how amazing the words are for us all and bridge the gap. She also hopes that it will encourage young kids to enroll in our amazing HIstorically Black Colleges and Universities.

Her brave response to me made me feel a-bit selfish and ashamed. She said i have worked very hard to get to the point where i have a true voice and At this point in my life and my career i have a responsibility to do whats best for the world and not what is most popular “ She said that her hope is that after the show young people would research this culture and see how cool it is, and young people black and white would listen to “ LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING and see how amazing the words are for us all and bridge the gap. 1. I’ll be real and admit I’ve never been a Beyonce fan. But after Lemonade and that Coachella performance, she gets nothing but respect from me. She is a gem because most artists today won’t do this kind of stuff.
