Whitney Houston’s cousin Damon Elliott spoke out to People.com, calling out Kanye West for using the infamous National Inquirer photo as artwork for “DAYTONA.”
In his interview with people, Damon called Kanye’s use of the photo disgusting. He says he learned about the album art from his daughter, who called him in a panic.
“[She was] frantic. She sent me this picture from the album cover and I immediately got sick to my stomach because it took me right back to six years ago.”
Damon then called Kanye’s recent controversial actions in the media a “train wreck,” and say the move did nothing but hurt his family.
“What were you thinking? Did you think this through? And if you did, why did you do this? Because you’re hurting people. It knocked the wind out of me last night. When someone passes, you try to mourn and move on and remember the good times.
Why are you going to pay $85,000 to bring something to the forefront?”
Kanye’s move also forced the family of Whitney Houston to relive her past, which may have led to the alleged drug use. Whitney’s child was allegedly marked by childhood abuse and molestation at the hands of a family member. In the upcoming documentary Whitney, her brother Gary and longtime assistant Mary Jones open up about the heartbreak she felt, years after she was allegedly molested by her older cousin Dee Dee Warwick.
“She used to say, ‘I wonder if I did something to make her think I wanted her?” says Jones in an emotional interview with the film’s director Kevin Macdonald, about Houston opening up to her about the abuse. But Jones would tell her not to think that way, saying, “Stop. A predator is a predator.”
Despite Kanye’s best efforts, and the latest with Pusha-T’s beef with Drake, the album sales projections appear to be less than stellar.
It’s projected that “Daytona” will only sell up to 75,000, with only 20,000 coming from actual album sales.
So I guess its OK if another rapper decides to use the surgery bed Kanye’s Mom died on for their next album cover right? F-ck Kanye.
