‘Married to Medicine’ Recap: Heavenly Has an Emotional Trip Back to Childhood Home + Quad Eyes Separation

married to medicine season 6 episode 6

Toya and Eugene meet up at the lot of their future home.

Both have had to make some sacrifices to find common ground. But Toya is still getting her dream closet. When Eugene asks Toya if she told the other ladies about the progress of their new home, she says the only one she doesn’t talk to like that is Contessa.

They then discuss Quad and Toya doesn’t understand why Quad wants to move on from the marriage.

Eugene says that Gregory says he’s open to working things out.

“It’s like they live in two totally different worlds.” – Toya

Back in Miami, Dr. Heavenly, Dr. Simone and Dr. Jackie all grab a bite to eat.

Heavenly still feels like Jackie can get away with saying whatever she wants to people. Simone’s phone rings and it’s Toya.

After Toya says that Mariah referred to them as Golden Girls, Jackie grabs the phone and ends the conversation because she doesn’t want to ruin the positive energy they’ve been having.

They reflect on where the group is now and Jackie says that she doesn’t feel like Quad is allowing everyone to be there for her.

Heavenly says that they all have work to do on themselves. But for today, they need to focus on what they are there to do.

The ladies get in the car and begin to ride around in a convertible. With Simone at the wheel, Heavenly is not comfortable.

Not too long after they park, they walk into a cigar shop and watch women roll up the cigars with their hands. It doesn’t take long before Heavenly picks one out for Damon. Simone is also cigar shopping and hoping to gift Cecil one.

Jackie isn’t happy to be in the shop, inhaling secondhand smoke.

It may be time for Greg and Quad to try a trial separation.

Quad meets with some friends, one of the couples that used to be in the marital focus group Quad and Dr. Gregory participated in.

She tells them that Greg is blaming her for his behavior.

Her friends feel like Gregory hasn’t been doing enough to make things work.

“I just know we can’t continue going on like this.” – Quad

A trial separation is suggested to Quad.

Mariah, Aydin and Lauren go out for dinner.

Lauren tells them she wants to talk about boys. But Aydin tells her to focus on her education and her career instead.

In a green screen interview. Aydin says it’s hard to talk about the birds and the bees because they don’t talk about that in his culture.

Then of course his siblings decided to go for arranged marriages.

Aydin feels Lauren should wait to date until her second year of college but realizes that’s too extreme.

They then discuss his exes and Mariah says before her he dated an “ugly woman” who looked like Heavenly.

It’s the day of Contessa’s mastectomy.

She’s scared and Dr. Scott tries to calm her down.

As she prepares breakfast, she decides not to tell her kids about the surgery so they won’t worry about her.

Heavenly is going back to her childhood home.

This was made possible because she got in touch with the current owner. She hasn’t been to the house in over 20 years.

During the car ride, Heavenly says she was very sheltered but her sister Denise wasn’t. Her mother said this was because she was the “good child.”

Denise got all the boys but Heavenly had to focus on school. She used to be Heavenly’s dental assistant.

In a green screen interview, Heavenly says that they can’t work together.

Dr. Jackie says that her father came back from the military when she was in high school. He was very strict.

Heavenly went off to college when she was 17 years old to get away from her family.

On the way to drop off the kids, Contessa gets a phone call from her daddy Gerald.

He wanted to talk to her before her surgery.

Dr. Scott comes back to the car and Contessa tells her that she’s feeling better now that she heard from Gerald. Jackie also sent a text telling Contessa that she’s in her thoughts and prayers.

The ladies arrive to Heavenly’s childhood home.

She didn’t have any friends in the neighborhood and never played outside.

In a green screen interview, Simone says she now understands Heavenly a lot more. She didn’t get to experience childhood conflicts like most have. So she struggles to resolve conflicts as an adult.

They ring the doorbell to enter the house.

Louie, the current owner, lets them in.

Heavenly shows the women her old bedroom. It had no windows. The kids couldn’t close the doors and couldn’t turn the lights off, even at night.

But Heavenly thinks the purpose of her childhood was to show her what life she didn’t want when she grew up.

When she goes to the room her father died in, she gets emotional.

“I haven’t been to this house since he died.” – Heavenly

Her father died her first year of dental school. She goes outside to collect herself and cries. Simone and Jackie console her.

“I want to go. Can we go?” – Heavenly

Heavenly’s father died from congestive heart failure.

The emotional conversation she had with her mother about her father’s death stuck with her. She told her mother she was studying for her exams and her mother screamed that she didn’t have to come back for the funeral. Heavenly came for the funeral but became even distant from her mother.

Jackie leads a prayer to make Heavenly feel better.

Contessa is being prepared for her mastectomy.

She really wants her kids to understand she did the surgery to be there for them. Scott is really nervous but he’s trying to be strong for Contessa.

Heavenly sees some old friends.

After an emotional trip to her childhood home, Heavenly decides to have Jackie and Simone meet some ladies she grew up with.

Jeannie, her white friend who was on SGA with her, is there. Heavenly says she only won her spot on the court because she is white.

Some laughs are had, and Jeannie shows some yearbook photos of Heavenly. Her other friends recall them getting drunk on Mad Dog 20/20 in high school.

“Heavenly has a really sharp tongue with us. Does she have it with you all?” – Simone

Her friends assure Jackie and Simone that Heavenly’s always been this way. While Jeannie doesn’t want Heavenly to change, she does think it would be best for her words to become “softer.”

When they get back to the hotel, Heavenly thanks Simone and Jackie for coming to Miami with her. She’s committed to working on bettering herself.
