There’s been a lot of discussion on whether or not Mexicans should be able to use the N-word.

“Black Ink Crew Chicago” star Lily has used the word many times, and clapped back at those who were offended on social media.

And while she and Ryan think Charmaine’s strong resistance to her using the word is a “personal vendetta,” Lily told VH1 she isn’t against no longer using it.

Here’s what she had to say:

I understand why people feel like I can’t say the N word. And regardless if it sounds like an excuse for them, you know, I grew up saying it. And it wasn’t nothing where it was out the blue.

I’ve been saying it since I’ve worked here from the beginning.

To me, if it’s a problem to where people feel disrespected or people feel like I’m just using it like where it’s a problem, I don’t mind working on it and just not saying it, period.

You know, it’s something that’s just in my vocabulary. It’s how I grew up talking.

As for Charmaine, she once again reiterates that the bigger issue is how Lily uses the word:

…I just don’t like the context she uses it. I don’t like in the situation she uses it. She only says it when she’s mad, when she’s drunk and when she’s talking to black people.
