‘Basketball Wives’ Recap: Shaunie Says the Surge of Conflicts in the Group Requires Changes to Cast

Kristen apologizes to Byron.

The reunion continues with the topic turning to OG revealing TC Carter being Thomas Byron’s biological father. Kristen’s still distraught over this yet OG defends her actions. They also touch on Kristen’s relationship with Byron. Kristen’s still apologetic towards Byron and hopes this doesn’t draw a wedge between Byron, Thomas, and her daughter.

Marc gets Kristen to look into the camera to apologize for her actions and words. He then leads in a segment of clips of multiple cast members confronting OG this season. They also address the “Toe-G” shade. OG’s disgusted at Jackie laughing at the Toe-G jokes. Jackie says it was in jest and in a loving way.

Marc says OG appears to be a target and OG agrees. She takes this moment to shade everyone who had work done saying they all didn’t like the way they looked.

OG stands behind her colorism claims.

OG than brings up she’s being discriminated against because she’s being put on another stage. At this point, Marc pivots the conversation back to Jennifer and the San Diego trip. Evelyn uses the moment to go off on Jennifer for the rumors about Shanice. However, Jennifer says she didn’t talk about her. She also says she thought it was petty for Malaysia and Evelyn to crop and post the photo to social media.

Evelyn says she would be friends with Jennifer if she owned up to it. Shaunie brings up she didn’t want Jennifer on the Costa Rica trip because of the rumor she created saying Shaq slept with Evelyn.

Malaysia says she still isn’t cool with Jennifer and Jennifer provoked her to throw the table. She and Jennifer throw insults and Jennifer says Malaysia would’ve been in jail if the table connected.

During the next commercial break, Malaysia leaves the set and locks herself in the room to vent about her interaction with Jennifer. She then leaves. The cast jumps into Anthony’s rumor about Malaysia that led to her fallout with Jackie. Malaysia’s not there to address it.

Kristen jumps in and says Jackie and Anthony have been cool for a long time. However, Jackie says Anthony was just hounding her in her DMs. Marc brings up the Media Take Out article about Jackie being concussed after her altercation at Malasia’s skate party. Marc and Shaunie believe Jackie and say Anthony caused the drama.

Feelings are still raw from Costa Rica.

Finally, the Costa Rica trip is recapped. It was kept light between Jackie and Feby and Marc was able to get the two to say they can end their feud.

Things get serious when they recap the warring factions centering around CeCe vs Kristen, CeCe vs Evelyn and OG vs. Evelyn. Kristen doesn’t regret how it played out as OG was getting involved. OG says she wasn’t trying to get involved. She only jumped in when she saw Evelyn tried to run up on Evelyn, noting Evelyn was saying she wanted to attack her multiple times.

Finally, Marc brings up Chad and OG says Chad reached out romantically since 2011. She then shoots out printed copies of the text messages next to Kwame out of a money shooter.

Kwame says he knows about it all and it was all before their relationship.

OG then brings up Evelyn using the N-Word, calling its slap in the face. Marc says Evelyn is Afro-Latina and OG disagrees. She says Evelyn only talked about Puerto Rico because she spoke about Nigeria. Evelyn proceeds to cuss OG out in Spanish when OG accuses her of not even speaking Spanish. OG than calls her a known s*** of the industry.

Shaunie finally alludes that “Basketball Wives” can’t continue with the same cast. Some changes will have to be made because most of the women no longer get along and they can’t even be cordial enough to film.

Marc and Shaunie talk about OG’s colorism allegations.

This marks the end of the reunion but it’s not the end of the show. Following the taping, events online inspired Marc’s interview with Shaunie about colorism allegations.

The two of them first talked about OG’s allegations made before the reunion on social media. Shaunie says that she and the producers worked hard to showcase women of all hues and didn’t try to single out OG. In fact, she was excited to have OG to showcase her Nigerian culture.

However, Shaunie says OG’s personality rubbed everyone the wrong way. She also says she hopes OG understands her 15-year friendship with Evelyn was strong and she definitely spoke to Evelyn about her antics on camera.

They then talk about Evelyn’s post of an ape head on Instagram. While tasteless, Evelyn told Shaunie it wasn’t racist nor was it about OG and Shaunie believed her. Lastly, Shaunie says she’s sorry OG experienced the season the way she did and she hopes she could talk to OG one on one about it.

What are your thoughts on the reunion and the season as a whole?
