“Married to Medicine” star Mariah Huq also happens to be the creator of the show. She’s also one of the executive producers. However, it hasn’t been easy for her. Mariah has clashed with her co-stars. And she’s even had issues with the other producers. On social media, she has told followers that she is treated unfairly. In her opinion, it all comes down to a lack of respect.

And while other cast members get many scenes with their families, Mariah doesn’t get many. This is something she has pointed out quite a bit over the years. But after a follower vented how they feel about how Mariah is treated, Mariah explained why she will never hesitate to be open about the behind the scenes politics.

It, just like every other show similar to its format, thriving on dysfunction and superficiality. Simply put, the more drama someone brings, the more screen time they get! There’s nothing redeeming about any of these shows. They show many of the worst traits of black women overall. Many of us have arrived at lives that we love and are proud of and don’t make daily fools of ourselves because of it. But shows that display the best traits of us will not exist because people thrive on mess. The show is nothing to be proud of! It’s a betrayal of the true strengths of real black women grinding out every single day and making differences in their families and communities.

This is so true. I do not understand the portrayal the women bring to the public. Those with children are very uncaring of what their children must endure in the public. You define it when you state it is “mess”.

I was disappointed with the show from the onset. It’s called “Married To Medicine” and to me it should better highlight the demands of this wonderful career and how these families face them instead of becoming just another reality show with nothing that sets it apart.

IMO, Mariah also did herself a disservice by wanting these women to bow down to her. She should really take a page from the book of others in her position and put some distance between her and the actual show by removing herself and her family and take on more of the role of editing/producing.

I agree with you regarding Mariah wanting them all to bow down to her. I love seeing her with her children, but she should own her words. She talks about each of them very hard in her personals.

          November 17, 2019 at 9:58 pm

Because the other ladies own their mess & Mariah doesn’t. This is what you get when you try to dig ditches for others, you end up in that ditch. Mariah is Mariah’s worst enemy. Also lets be clear Mariah is EP in name only just like Shaunie.

          • Lily

            November 17, 2019 at 10:06 pm

Here you come repeating the same lies all the Mariah haters do. Mariah owns her mess way more than anyone else. She’s apologized more than anyone else. Right now, Jackie won’t even own that calling Buffie infertile in a room full of strangers was wrong. Instead, she says it’s like calling a black person black. She still hasn’t apologized for calling Toya fat. Heavenly doesn’t see what’s wrong with saying yo momma to everybody. Quad is never wrong. Like ever. And Contessa still won’t admit that her storylines are always fake so what show are YOU watching? The only ones who will apologize and admit being wrong are Mariah, Toya, and Simone. And you must know nothing about the TV business. There’s no such thing as being a EP only in name. Mariah gets two checks. One for being a main cast member and one as an EP. She’s gotten several people on the cast, including Heavenly and Quad. The only thing she can’t do is fire anyone and you should be happy about that. Because as soon as a black woman is an EP and fires someone, yall got an issue with that too (Shaunie). You’re just jealous a black woman is an EP. Typical.

Exactly…MTM has become too much to watch. Showing up to a kids birthday party with no kids and dressed to the nines?! Really?! Pressing everyone that may believe Quads accusation…why is Quad still on this show? She brings no positivity at all. I have come to FF thru Mariah, Quad and Heavenly. Jackie also is starting to wear soon some nerves, as well as Contessa. I watch for Simone and Toya. MTM is becoming just as ratchet as the other Bravo shows!

Mariah needs to understand that black women are very competitive with each other. They never liked Mariah because she did create the show and since she’s not a doctor, they feel she’s too beneath them to have achieved something like that. If she was a white woman, they would have never crossed her. That’s just the truth, I believe the creator of the show should be respected and never be mistreated on their own show. But here we are. Maybe she should take a step away for her own sanity. Especially since she gets a check regardless.

Women in general can be caddy and petty. Just watch any commercial of an all female cast of characters show on any network and they are all the same, regardless of the race of each. As black women, we need to stop turning our backs on what has made us so fortifiable. loved, feared and revered. People don’t work so hard to diminish a groups’ worth if they don’t present a threat!

      • Diamond

        November 17, 2019 at 10:10 pm

I feel you but I’m still sure that they would not cross Mariah if she was a white woman. This happens a lot in Corporate America. A lot of black women aren’t comfortable with another black woman having a position of power. Crabs in a barrel is very true.

        • Not Today

          November 18, 2019 at 11:01 am

Having worked in corporate, AND worked my way up to claim a seat at the table, I can say first hand, black women have been nothing but good to me. I reject said notion. This has nothing to do with color. Mariah is just not that interesting.

And another thing…people keep comparing Shaunie, so I’m going to say this…the difference between her and Mariah is, most of the women on M2M are well-educated, accomplished women who’ve earned their strips through hard work and determination. Most of the BBW’s earned their strips on their backs (and sometimes their knees, as O.G. would say. LOL). Apples and oranges.

As someone with advanced degrees, certifications and great earning potential, you’d be hard-pressed to get me to kiss the pinky ring. Sorry, but Mariah did that to herself when she insisted the women show her gratitude and bow down like she was the queen. The other women are not just married to medicine, they practice medicine.

          • Diamond

            November 18, 2019 at 11:26 am

Your positive experience does not invalidate those who have experienced differently. And you literally just proved my point with your sentence here: “As someone with advanced degrees, certifications and great earning potential, you’d be hard-pressed to get me to kiss the pinky ring.”

That right there. Why are you equating respecting someone to kissing the pinky ring? That is very immature. The fact that you think the accomplishments of the other black women on the show means they don’t have to respect the woman who gave them a platform is the black woman cattiness I was referring to. It’s always a competition. And y’all always have reasons for why you don’t have to respect other black women. But when I call out the behavior, you deny and talk about how strong black woman sisterhood is. Yeah, whatever.

Also, Mariah never asked anyone to kiss the ring. But she doesn’t have to be okay with women using her platform to disrespect her and try to remove her from it. Jackie and Simone came for Mariah from day one because she’s not a doctor. That was disrespectful, period. Like I said, y’all don’t like a black woman who dares to have healthy self-confidence that isn’t tied to her education. I’m glad I can’t relate. And how is Mariah not that interesting when you’re on here discussing her? Clearly, she’s interesting enough for you and so many others to take time out of your day to talk about her. 45 comments and counting on a post about Mariah. No one discusses people they don’t find interesting.

            November 18, 2019 at 11:45 am

So basically, Mariah doesn’t deserve any respect for the fact that she created and pitched the show successfully because she doesn’t have more education than the doctors on the show? I hope that is not what you’re saying because that’s the silliest thing I’ve seen on here in a while. Mariah may not be a doctor, but none of those doctors were able to do what she did. Her years of experience in journalism as a producer gave her the skills needed to create and pitch a show they all use now as a platform to further their own careers. It’s annoying how classist some black people are. Y’all are classist but have the nerve to be mad about Mariah wanting to be treated like “a queen” and wanting them to “kiss the pinky ring.”

Okay but people like you don’t seem to have an issue with Jackie wanting people to kiss her pinky ring all the time. Jackie is literally treated like a god by the cast and fans despite being a mean girl, but how dare Mariah want respect for creating a show yall have supported for years. The hypocrisy.

“Not Today,” your responses NAILED IT!
from the differentiation between Shaunie and Mariah and the culture/casts dynamics of the their shows, to pointing out that painting all…or even most African American Women with the same brush strokes of negative rhetoric is not only reckless, it’s also nonsensical! To lastly-the notion that the collective we can indeed be appreciative to those who present/presented an opportunity that benefits us, yet -not feeling the need to be beholden to those entities unconditionally… bow down them, when their true colors (calculating, conivivng, backstabbing, meangirlesk qualities) rise to the surface and figuratively – slaps us in the face. No Ma’am. Not Today, or ANY other Day! ;D lol Respect is earned, and is not unconditional.

Having pulled many a dagger our of my back, I agree that some of us do have a “crab in the barrel,” mentality in life in general. We have conditioned, and openly accepted, the belief that there can only be one of at a time with a seat at the head table, the rest of us are suppose to be serving those that are there. Unfortunately, those who happen to be sitting at the table forget that they have a responsibility to (1) treat those who are in the servant role with respect; (2) increase the size of the table and help more of us to earn a seat beside them; (3) eventually create an environment where everyone is a leader and a servant! We have forgotten who we are, and thusly have become what others project us to be. I’m not sure when we as a race decided that life success equals being as white like as possible, we are stronger than this!

        November 17, 2019 at 10:57 pm

Ladies. let’s be real, there are several cast members that are not married to medicine other than Quad, ie: Jackie, Simone. But they are still there. and as far as Mariah, all I will say is, “Respect given, respect granted. No one needs to bow down to anyone. Toya, why she feel so privileged,I was watching a past season. when she was yelling at her husband, and told him to stop talking. Who does she really think she is. A real black man would have checked that disrespectful a**. I am just saying.

        • Hotep2You

          November 21, 2019 at 6:46 am

Sam – the show was marketed with…was often mentioned in the early seasons, the core cast is either a physician/dentist thus married to their profession…ie married to medicine OR they are women/men who are not medical professionals BUT are married to someone who is. The play on the phrase married to medicine, was intentional. So yeah- actually, Quad is the only member of the cast that is not…or rather is no longer, “married to medicine.” Personally-I am okay with that fact for a myriad of reasons.
Chief amongst my reasoning-She is a part of the show’s original cast, and whether folk choose to admit/acknowledge it or not- Divorce IS a reality of nearly 50% of all marriages. As is the fallout that results when marriages fail. From navigating the friendships once shared by the divorced couple during marriage, to the mirror- those friends hold up to their marriages when someone close to them -marriage fails. So YES, her remaining as a core member of the cast…all that, that entails, makes sense.

No they didn’t like Mariah because she is a jealous witch who wants people to kiss her butt all while throwing daggers left and right. And lets not forget Mariah plays the victim with everything and everybody. She doesn’t own her mess.

      • Diamond

        November 17, 2019 at 10:17 pm

Doesn’t own her mess? False. Anyway, you’re the perfect example of what I was referring to. You’re projecting and telling on yourself with the “she wants everyone to kiss her butt” nonsense. Y’all don’t like when a black woman creates something and then demands to be respected on top of that. Newsflash, wanting to be respected on your own show is healthy self-esteem. Oh and common sense. Mariah isn’t jealous of anyone. Why should she be? She created the very platform all these women have used to propel themselves forward. We wouldn’t know any of them had Mariah not have put in the work to create this show. She also has healthy self-esteem and that seems to bother most of you. She walks in every room and owns it. So stay pressed I guess. I love women with healthy self-esteem. And I know you’re not accusing her of playing victim when Quad is the biggest victim on the show and has been for years now. Cute.

        Exactly Claire…EXXXXXACTLY!!!!
Mariah’s overly healthy sense of self as show creator, and the vanity tag- EP, has her believing that no matter how foul she is to others…mean spirited well below the belt, and behind the back slingin’ ALL must…as someone previously posted, Kiss Her Ring!
AND NO ONE insults, attacks then plays victim quite as well- OR as often as she does. lol Oh and her far and few apologies to others … when delivered, arrive a season or two-too late. She set the stage for her landing HERSELF on the fringes of the “Group.” #SHEdidthat aaaah but alas…lol

I feel that Mariah should get more respect on the show she created. She is everyone iui gently a bright and innovative young woman. I agree that she should step away from being a part of the every day going on of the show and take on a behind the scenes role. After all she is smart enough to master that job and do not hesitate to ask for what you are worth. I am so very disappointed with most of those professionals. Can someone tell me why Quad is still on the show? She is an angry, meanspirited woman. Mariah leave her alone, I predict that she will always be bitter and miserable. Rise above those envious women, God is just. Each will get exactly what they deserve. Love and best wishes. Push through!!

Mariah has been the biggest clown on the show from day one. She has shown NOTHING positive, from her fake affect of talking like a gay black man, to fighting a woman with her mother in a swimming pool. That was season one. This show was nothing new and different, just another franchise that gives black women a platform to debase themselves while flossing for your entertainment. Spare me with the victimhood.

    • Anonymous

      November 16, 2019 at 3:04 pm

Quad talks the same way so what’s the problem? Honestly, a lot of people have borrowed things from gay black men including modern vernacular to makeup techniques. That woman she fought? Her name is Toya and they have moved past that. So should you. Every woman on this show has shown something positive including Mariah. Mariah’s scenes with her children are positive and touching. She was also very supportive when Jackie was cheated on just for Jackie to mistreat her this season. There are many more moments. Also, Mariah just won a humanitarian award from the NAACP for her many years of community service. Hopefully that will be on the show. If you don’t like the show, why read about it and comment on it? Makes no sense.

I think it’s hard for the other women to respect her as an EP when she’s on the show too. I think Shaunie is treated the same way. Furthermore, I think Mariah is very catty and messy like the other women. I don’t view her as being bullied, as opposed to having differences of opinions with some of the other women. I also think she’s viewed differently than the other executives bc she’s on the show arguing, fussing and fighting. In my opinion, that’s probably why the other EPs look at her as part of the casts more so than an EP. Furthermore, I think the people who do get more time with their family are those who have something interesting that viewers want to see. The last time they showed Mariah and her daughter it wasn’t all that entertaining or interesting. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • Anonymous

      November 16, 2019 at 3:24 pm

No offense, but Mariah’s son is in pilot school. That’s way more interesting than Heavenly arguing with her daughter about wearing lip gloss. I think they don’t show Mariah’s family life more because they are multiracial and multicultural. It’s the same reason why we don’t see much from Buffie’s husband.

      • Shannon

        November 16, 2019 at 3:43 pm

I was confused as to why Heavenly’s daughter got a green screen interview. She’s the only child on the show to do so. The favoritism they have for Heavenly, Jackie, and Quad is frustrating.

        • Yeah I Said It!

          November 16, 2019 at 4:02 pm

I thought I was the only one who thought that was strange. She really didn’t need a green screen interview. LOL. And honestly, the argument of the kids not being entertaining or interesting enough doesn’t really make sense to me because that shouldn’t even matter. The show is supposed to show the drama, the professional and family lives of all the women on the show. There’s no legitimate reason why Mariah isn’t getting that as a main cast member. She definitely doesn’t get fair treatment and even her cast mates have noticed.

    • Tracey

      November 16, 2019 at 3:27 pm

I disagree. None of the numerous scenes we get from Heavenly and her daughter are all that interesting. And Contessa’s kids always sound like they are reading from a script Mommy approved. I would love more scenes with Mariah and her family. It’s unfair that she doesn’t get that when the other women do.

Mariah is my girl but black women only get the respect she wants when we remain behind the scenes. Basically you have to do it like how Mona does her shows. And to be honest, Mona doesn’t get that much respect either. Her employees stay dragging her. So I guess she’s not the best example.

I don’t think Shaunie is a good example. Shaunie can actually fire the people who come for her and that’s why Basketball Wives fans hate her. They want her to be disrespected on her own show like Mariah is. There are a lot of us (black women) who don’t like to see other black women wielding any kind of power.

Eh, Mariah is actually in a much better position than she’s ever been. Both Quad and Jackie have been exposed and Mariah actually has allies on the show again. And she’s legitimately in a good place with Toya and Simone. She even had Eugene speaking up for her and more viewers noticing how she’s disrespected by the producers. I hated when they tries to exclude you or my you feel inferior. You can see the jealousy, they want you to walk away. Have more parties with your family. Have your own show within the show. Mariah needs to be still. She was not her best self in many episodes but I still believe that she is a good person at heart. She gets in her own way and has to learn to let things go. She is emotional and as a result people like Heavenly and her nasty comments can get to her. She needs to calmly tell Heavenly that she is blessed to have a mama who loves her and who she loves. Her mama never gave her a closet for a room. She was raised with light and love and id so very fortunate to be a part of a great mother daughter relationship.

I respect Mariah for creating one of my favorite reality shows. I do notice that she’s mistreated a lot and it annoys me. I remember when they tried to kick her off the show just to bring her back because those ratings without her were doo doo. If they try it again, I’m done watching.
