Ashanti and Nelly have never been public about the romance the whole music industry has known about for years. Instead, they just appeared and acted like a couple on the red carpet while attending events, never quite confirming that they were together. But now in the social media age, celebrities are telling on themselves with their Twitter and Instagram accounts. And when things did go sour for Ashanti and Nelly recently, Ashanti’s sister Shia took to her Twitter account to send a message to his new boo thang Tae Heckard. Shia warned Tae not to come to New York and she and her friends even left some messages on Tae’s Instagram photos and accused of her of breaking up Nelly and Ashanti.
Tae denied the accusations on her Twitter account, and Nelly even made it clear that he felt Ashanti’s sister was being childish and acting like a “fake gangsta.”
Ashanti has been pretty mum and has thrown a little shade on Instagram, but it appears everyone has moved on from the social media beefing.
Interestingly enough, Ashanti still didn’t claim Nelly in a recent interview with Sway Calloway in the Morning via Shade 45, and pretty much made it seem like they were never together.
She says:
“Who said we had a relationship? What you talkin’ about, Willis?”
At this point, it was just accepted that Ashanti wasn’t going to say much else on the subject, but she did make it clear that she doesn’t feel obligated to date someone who is famous, but compatibility is everything to her:
“I think what’s important is to find someone who you have things in common with that can understand. So, whether you have a 9-to-5 or you’re in the industry or you’re into computers, or you’re into doing nails…whatever it is, you find someone that you’re compatible with.”
