Gang Starr is by far one of the most influential Hip-Hop groups of all time. To this day, you can still hear songs like “Royalty” and “Mass Appeal” blasting through car windows. But on Monday, April 19th 2010, the group suffered a tremendous loss. Keith Elam, better known as Guru to true Hip-Hop heads, lost his long, hard fought battle with cancer. It was said that Guru suffered a heart attack earlier this year and slipped into a coma. Guru’s business partner and friend Solar released a statement on rapper’s death:

“The world has lost one of the best MCs and hip-hop icons of all –time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru. Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle. This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.” –Solar

Numerous artists, producers and entertainers have sent their condolences to Guru’s family. Although he is no longer here in the physical, Guru will always live on through his music and contributions that he made to the world of Hip-Hop.
