South African student Boitumelo McCallum was slain in 2007 by former boyfriend Michael Cordero. The murder took place in her family’s NYU apartment. McCallum’s parents were not fond of the relationship between McCallum and Cordero. McCallum’s father especially wanted to see the two split up. Her mother says that her daughter “made a wrong choice of whom to share her love with”.
Cordero appeared to be very remorseful for what he did. The fact remains that he will be serving 25 years in prison. An apology from Cordero will not heal the hole in the hearts of Boitumelo McCallum’s parents but they may one day find it in their hearts to forgive him.
