There’s an evolution that has taken place between women and sex. We are no longer restricted to the role of silent pleasers who are not expected to like sex, let alone master it; but women are winning a battle that once left us in a place that made sex untouchable in the realm of respected womanhood. We’re free, although not everyone may like our new established freedom. While it’s still preferred that women maintain a level of class in the new age of sexual equality, it doesn’t mean that women aren’t stepping into a territory once dominated by men, and men alone. Porn isn’t a form of gentleman’s entertainment anymore, and it appears that women too want a piece of the action.
And a new study entitled Female Patrons of Porn proves that we’ve been getting a lot of action.
The study investigated the percentage of men to women that entered 33 adult stores in Southern California. In particular, the study focused on how the two genders patronized the stores, as well as what variables had an effect on the likelihood of a woman visiting these particular establishments.
According to the study, out of the 1,250 patrons that visited the stores, 83% of these patrons were men, The research also states that two studies revealed that women make up 50% of the sex shop patrons.
It’s no surprise that men constituted as the majority of consumers that purchased hard core pornography, but women made up a large percentage of the consumers for particular sexual devices and services.
And when it comes down to how the two genders preferred to shop, 75.6% of men entered the stores alone in comparison to 13.1% women who opted for a solo trip. These figures indicate that women prefer sex shops more so as a social event, while men prefer private booths for sexual “release.”
This concept is strikingly similar to the growing popularity of sex toy parties that have become a huge hit with women in the last couple of years. Women are more likely to rely on sex shops and strip clubs as a means of entertainment. Men on the other hand use porno material and shops as a means of meeting sexual needs.
In addition to these differences of the need for porn, other factors also shaped the entire study, as well as a woman’s complete sex shop experience.
In the study, security guards increased the chances of a woman entering a sex shop, while female employees and the presence of viewing booths lessened the chances of visitation of female patrons. It could be possible that female employees are more likely to make a woman feel embarrassed about shopping for sex toys, while viewing booths bring a more masculine aura to the stores in question.
These studies indicate that women are beginning to grow more comfortable with the the pornographic industry, but there are still women who prefer to go nowhere near these sexually infested places.
No woman is the same, as there are just some women who have no interest in sex toys or any other form of pornography. However, this study does show that women are slowly escaping from the taboos of sexual liberation.
I think we should all celebrate the fact that we get to make the choice of whether we walk past these places or walk right in.
To buy or not to buy?
Only in America.
