Just as Chad had to stare retirement in the face and his fiance Evelyn jokingly embraced being the breadwinner, another team stepped in and delayed everything. Chad Ochocinco and the Dolphins agreed to the terms of a contract four days after he was cut by New England and will allow him to bring his talents to MetLife Stadium in Downtown Miami. According to ESPN,
The signing came after Ochocinco had a tryout with the Dolphins, who are thin at the position and dropping a lot of passes in offseason drills. He’s likely to join the team for this week’s OTAs, which continue through Wednesday.
“Congrats to Chad,” tweeted his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. “It’s nice to come home.”
Chad, 34, was raised in the Miami Area and the reality show starring him and his fiance Evelyn will be produced there as well.
Back in March, the Dolphins traded Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears for two third-round draft picks, and didn’t draft a receiver until the sixth round. Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin definitely felt there has been much room for improvement catching the football during offseason workouts and expects Chad to contribute significantly in this department.
Coach Philbin Tells ESPN:
“You would like to have some players make it easy and distinguish themselves, maybe make the picture a little bit clearer. We have to catch the ball more consistently at every position on offense, because it is not quite where it needs to be.”
In his career, Ochocinco has caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. All of the Dolphins’ returning wide receivers have less than 12 career TDs.
