Just days after Chris Lighty was found dead as a result of what appeared to be a suicide, many close to him continue to doubt that the the Violator Management founder took his life with his own hands. It was originally reported that Chris Lighty took a gun and shot himself in the head after a heated argument with his estranged wife. According to the original report, the argument occurred the same day Lighty was in the middle of moving his things out the home. Some alleged that Chris was stressed due the end of his marriage and some financial troubles he had recently encountered. But according to his brother Dave Lighty, things just aren’t adding up. Here’s what Dave had to say about Chris’ alleged suicide:
“I’m surprised, shocked, and lost at this moment. I want the truth to come out. This isn’t my brother. My brother was a strong person, is a strong person. Nothing is adding up. I can’t get a direct answer from anybody…I understand there’s a process to be followed. I can’t even get clear answers from people I think I should be getting clear answers from… I just want to know what really happened to my brother. If he did take his own life, all right, I just wish he could have reached out and spoken to us. We were all here for him. I just want the truth. The truth.”
Many are starting to question if his former wife, Veronica Lighty had anything to do with his death. Although the original reports claim the two got into a heated argument before his death, she claims that no argument occurred. Here’s the statement her friend released to the press:
“He was in a lot of pain and he possibly had some financial difficulties.”
Veronica’s friend, Norman Downes elaborates on his debt issues:
Lighty’s suicide came amidst a bitter divorce from his 36-year-old wife. However, Downes insisted that the estranged couple did not fight that day, according to the New York Daily News.
The 44-year-old entertainment heavyweight left his home in South Riverdale on Thursday with the words, ‘I’m tired of this,’ walked to the backyard and shot himself in the head with a 9-mm. handgun, sources said.
Veronica Lighty, speaking through Downes, suggested that it was not a row with her that led to her ex-husband’s suicide, but rather his massive IRS debt totaling $5million. The Associated Press, however, reported that Lighty had paid most of it off, owing only $330,000 in state and federal taxes.
When asked if financial problems might have provoked Lighty to commit suicide, Downes said, ‘The only person that really knows is Chris, and he ain’t here.’
In related news, Chris Lighty’s death has been ruled a suicide by the medical examiner. The examiner states that Lighty died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. A 9-mm was found by his body.

I think he was murdered too. His friends say he’s had more extreme money problems before, so this just doesn’t make sense. Sad to say it, but apparently this is a growing trend in the business. These “suicides.”
That tweet though…SMH. I can see why his brother thinks something is fishy.
I’m not saying the business isn’t a dirty one, but I think people just find it hard to believe that their loved ones would kill themselves. I think it’s just the shock of it that has his brother crying foul. The truth is anyone can get depressed and get so low that they will contemplate killing themselves. He might have been a strong person, but he’s still a person and a human being. Anyone’s spirit can be broken, and anyone can take their life. Praying for the family.
