Sisters Venus and Serena Williams can easily be labeled as two black women who have worked hard enough to break down many barriers throughout their successful careers as professional tennis players. Throughout their dominance as athletes, they racked up on gold medals and numerous accolades, and they have even managed to remain positive role models to young black girls who aspire to be just as successful in their lives and the industry of athletics. But it appears that Venus has another ambition that doesn’t requite her killing it on the tennis court. Venus has been working effortlessly at developing her own fashion line. Her new fashion line, entitled EleVen By Venus, is a fashion line that is said to be fashionable tennis wear. Although it just made good business sense for a superstar tennis athlete to develop her own line of tennis garments, Venus was still said to be extremely nervous of its acceptance at her first shot at showing the line off at New York Fashion Week.
Turns out that there wasn’t any need for those butterflies of Venus’, as she absolutely wowed the top fashion heads at her show.
Here’s what the AP is reporting:
Venus Williams won applause from Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley at her debut fashion presentation of her tennis-wear range. Talley shouted “Bravo” after watching a cast of athletes, including boxing champ Michael Olajide and ex-New York City Ballet principal Albert Evans, perform routines on a tennis court that served as a runway for the Eleven by Venus show. Also sitting front-row at the pop-up Grey Goose Blue Door in Chelsea was Ryan Lochte.
Congratulations to Venus.
