Singer Miguel is enjoying his current success on the Billboard R&B charts with his hit single Adorn, and garnering plenty of support at a quick pace with his soulful music and incredible songwriting skills. The singer is building up his fan base with not only his great music, but also with what some deem as an original take to the R&B genre.
But with success, always comes scrutiny. Especially in the day of age of social media and the gossip blogs. Miguel recently allowed BET an opportunity to catch a closer glimpse of one of his shows, and in the process, Miguel might have turned off some of his fans with what some are calling major diva antics.
According to KeepIt100.com, during one of Miguel’s recent shows, the singer demanded that the men sitting in the front row moved, since he prefers that the front rows are reserved only for his female fans.
Here’s the story:
According to Bet’s review of an intimate show he had at Joe’s Pub the adorn singer said
“May I have a water on the stage, please, and more women in the front,” he said. “There’s too many men up here. With all due respect, fellas, I’m not playing.”
Now I would Usually call him an ungrateful piece of sh-t . Disenfranchising the few fans he has . But I probably see where he comes from. There were probably too many males in the front row and he wanted some of the ladies to come forward. It reeks of insecurity and honestly any male fan in that regardless of their sexuality will feel awful . My advice to him especially as a new artist: Try not to alienate any of your fans.
Is he just trying too hard to fight off the gay rumors? That was unnecessary and rude as hell. I still love his music though. LOL!
He’s such a damn diva. And Hater, this didn’t do a thing to help the gay rumors. I think this only made it worse.
So he’s just going to assume that all the men on the front row are gay and they want him? Oh. Ok.
Yep, that’s usually how people treat gay people. Sad isn’t it?
Wow. Well his music is good enough that I won’t let this keep me from supporting him. But he’s sounds real homophobic to me.
Yeah, this was a bit much. But if he’s in to women and not men, it’s probably awkward for him to sing with men in the front row. But he probably should have gotten over himself and just sang so he wouldn’t have to come off like such a douche.
LOL really though? I tell you, these new R&B singers today are such queens. They don’t even try to hide it either.
This was rude. Even if gay men are sitting in the front row, they deserve to sit wherever they want to. They shouldn’t be told to move because he’s “not gay.” That’s immature and very arrogant of him.
Wow. I didn’t know he could be so stupid like this. Who’s to say those men in the front row aren’t genuine fans who just came to hear good music? He’s full of himself.
Bad move. He’s too new of an artist to be so arrogant. He needs to chill and be thankful he has the fans and success that he has.
Taking into consideration the type of performer he is and the nature of some of his songs, I could see why he’d want more females on the front row than males, especially when it comes to interacting with the audience. I can see how this reeks of insecurity, but I think it also reeks of disrespect and insensitivity as well. This could have been handled behind the scenes…
I have to agree with you 100%.
Perhaps, and this is just a theory, he prefers to sing love/sex songs to women, gay rumors or not. Considering that the only way for a male r+b artist to avoid gay rumors is to not be a make r+b artist I consider those type of rumors to be irrelevant. If a female artist says “I’m gonna sing to the ladies tonight, can I get some ladies to the front please” will people start calling her a dyke b***h? Well probably, because everyone’s a hater these days, but the point is the songs are directed at the ladies, so the artist should be able to sing to the ladies, if he needs women in the audience to make eye contact with, give it to him.
