Wyclef Jean may have been one thirds of the legendary Hip Hop group The Fugees, but since the group has been broken up, he seems to associated more so with his personal controversies. Although Wyclef is a married man, he’s had numerous affairs throughout his marriage. One of the most notable affairs he’s been involved in would have to be the one with Lauryn Hill, an affair that eventually led to the demise of the group. One of the rumors that has always been a result of the affair was that Lauryn was sleeping with Wyclef and her former lover of many years Rohan Marley (who was also married at the time). And a few days ago, it was reported that Wyclef revealed in his upcoming book, entitled Purpose, that Lauren was indeed sleeping with both men at the same time. In fact, he even said Lauryn wasn’t even sure who the baby’s father was. And after originally telling Wyclef that the baby was his, she eventually retracted her statement after she found out that the baby was really Rohan’s.
But it was the paternity of the baby that Wyclef credits specifically for the end of their affair and the end of The Fugees (according to the book):
“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that. She could no longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.”
Well it looks as if Wyclef is spilling more tea. In 2010, it was alleged that Wyclef was having an affair with his then manager, Lisa Ellis. It was said that Wyclef’s wife discovered naked pictures of Ellis on his Blackberry. Wyclef denied the allegations, and said the nude pictures were for an upcoming book that was never published.
Now he admits in the book that he lied and an affair with Ellis did take place:
“In those years after my father died, like I said, I made many mistakes. The worst of them was to get into a relationship with the woman who was my manager at the time . . . My former manager claimed that the picture was a nude shot taken by a photographer for a book of artistic portraits. I’m pretty sure that book never came out, but I wasn’t going to throw her under the bus publicly, so I didn’t say anything more about it.”
Regardless, Ellis was eventually dismissed as his manager. But Wyclef says it’s not because his wife Claudinette told him to:
“I did so because of a few bad business decisions on her part, and I also didn’t agree with her management style. Even if those two issues hadn’t been there, my mixing business with pleasure was miserable. Firing her as my manager was the only thing I could do after crossing those lines, because business could not go on as usual between us any longer.”
And he still has a wife despite all of this. Pathetic. That woman has no backbone.
Typical Haitian man. They don’t even try to be faithful. #shrugs
Damn. Lauryn Hill was just as trifling as Wyclef. No wonder she broke his heart. She’s the female version of him.
Wyclef is the perfect example of a person who should have never gotten married. He has no desire to be faithful, and I’m saddened that his wife stayed with him despite all the affairs.
I know this about Wyclef and his manager, but man, it sucks to hear that Lauryn would do these things. She was really rapping female empowerment and posing like a role model and this whole time she was sleeping with married men. That is very disappointing.
