The fate of legendary Hip Hop group Outkast has been up in the air for years. Since the group’s last album together, Idlewild (which was more of a movie soundtrack and compilation album), fans of the rap duo have been anticipating another studio album and have been questioning if perhaps the group has called it quits since it’s been virtually impossible to get them back in the studio together to record another album. As a result of the lack of confirmation that another album is in the works, it has been rumored that Andre 3000 and Big Boi are at odds and the group would never be able to come together again and record new music. Andre 3000 has gone on to become an actor and fashion designer, while Big Boi has dabbled in acting and doing music as a solo artist. But despite the success both have had outside of Outkast, fans still wonder if they will ever reunite musically and if there is some kind of beef that is keeping them from getting back in the studio as a group.

Big Boi has already expressed that the fate of the group pretty much lies in the hands of Andre 3000, as he has already expressed he’s down for another Outkast album, but musically, it seems that Andre 3000 is the unsure one.

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, Big Boi speaks candidly about their relationship and the constant media scrutiny regarding the status of the group:

“But that’s my partner. You know, when we meet behind closed doors – And you get the articles and [it’s] “he said this” and “he said that;” muthaf*ckas taking sh*t outta context; they don’t really know us. That’s my brother. He comes to my house; our kids play together. They play video games and we sit and listen to music and just catch up. But, that’s out of the public eye. But when you been with a guy since the tenth grade, we don’t have to see each other every day. And we don’t have to make records all of the time; we got a catalog that’s unprecedented. And, when he ready to do a full ‘Kast record together, then that’ll happen. But until then, ain’t no problems or nothing and the music [I make] is still gonna sound out of this world.”

In related news, Big Boi has a new album out. Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors dropped Wednesday and is currently available on iTunes.

  1. I think their time has past. Dre’s mind just isn’t wrapped around making another OutKast album and I don’t think he will ever catch that bug ever again.

  2. I think it’s stupid that Andre 3000 is holding them up from doing more music together. I love Dre but it’s not like his acting career is popping off.All he’s really doing is the Gillette thing. He has time to do another album. I just don’t think he wants to because he’s feeling himself too much and thinks he has outgrown being in a group.

  3. I would love to slap Dre for you Big Boi. I see you’re still keeping it classy and not saying what you really feel. LOL.

  4. If Andre does not want to rap anymore, that is fine with me. He is almost 40 years old. A 40 year old man rapping might not appeal to him and maybe he has other ventures and other goals he would like to accomplish.
