As legendary girl group TLC’s loyal fans continue to anxiously wait for the premiere of their VH1 biopic, the upcoming film continues to cause lots of debate. When the actresses chosen to portray Left Eye (Lil Mama), T-Boz (Drew Sidora), and Chilli (Keke Palmer) were officially announced by the network, lots of fans displayed their disappointment and concern. For some, they just didn’t think the young actresses had the acting chops to pull the roles off, while many couldn’t get past the fact that they didn’t really resemble the group members physically. T-Boz became a little frustrated with the criticism, so she recently took to her Instagram account to remind fans that she and Chilli have full confidence in the young women chosen for the film. Keke Palmer and Lil Mama also took to their social media accounts to make their frustrations with their critics known.

VH1 just confirmed that production for the biopic has wrapped up, and the network recently released the first official promotional photo for the upcoming film. The network writes:

The film follows the influential girl group from its Atlanta inception to recording studios, the Grammy Awards, and even the days following the tragic death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. With firsthand guidance from Chilli and T-Boz, the project has recreated the group’s most iconic videos, with cast members stepping into some of their more memorable ’90s fashions you may have tried to forget. In the photo above, 1992 single “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg”–off debut album, Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip–is brought to life for 2013. The song remains a classic in the R&B world, introducing us to three ATL tomboys who played by their own rules, and Lil Mama (Left Eye), Keke Palmer (Chilli), and Drew Sidora (T-Boz) step into those roles seamlessly.

We have to say, we think they nailed it in looks alone. But Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story doesn’t drop until reportedly sometime this fall (that’s just speculation considering no official release date has been set as of yet), so we won’t get to see their acting chops until then when it comes to playing these three legendary ladies.

Does the photo give you hope or make you nervous for this biopic?

In related news, the two surviving members of TLC, Chilli and T-Boz, just confirmed recently that they are working on another album. Drake, J. Cole, and Ne-Yo have already been confirmed for collaborations.
