It’s one of the biggest times of the year for great movie releases, and this month there will be several blockbuster films that will easily make millions at the box office. Unfortunately, it looks like the Tyler Perry produced comedy “Peeples” may not be so fortunate. Although the comedy stars Kerry Washington, David Alan Grier and Craig Robinson of “The Office,” the numbers for the film’s opening weekend are pretty grim. The movie is a comedy about a boyfriend’s awkward meeting of his girlfriend’s family, and although it wasn’t written by Perry, it’s still getting panned by some critics. Regardless, Tyler may not care about what the critics feel about his movies, but we’re sure he won’t be too pleased to hear that one of the movies he produced flopped badly at the box office in its opening weekend. The Hollywood Reporter writes:
…Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry Presents Peebles, a PG-13 comedy written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism and the weekend’s only other new wide release, barely moved the needle. While ranking fourth for the dy, the Perry-produced movie, which stars Craig Robinson as a blue-collar guy trying to impress his girlfriend’s family, attracted just $1.2 million from 2,041 theaters and is headed for a $3.5-4 million opening weekend. It earned a B- CinemaScore.
I actually saw “Peeples” Friday night with my husband, and we both really enjoyed it. Of course, the film couldn’t compare to the excellent writing of “42” (another film we encourage you to go see if you haven’t), but it was a comedy and it did its job which was to make us laugh. But we did notice that it was kind of thin in there compared to the crowds that were lined up to see “The Great Gasby” and we can’t say we know too many people who went to go see “Peeples” this weekend.
I’m not surprised my best friend asked me about going to the movies to see Peeples and I told her I would just wait until DVD. I guess I wasn’t the only one thinking the same lol.
It looked like it sucked so I didn’t want to waste my time. Lol.
Oh damn. That’s too bad. I planned on seeing it for Kerry, David, and Craig. I still might anyway.
Welp. I’m still going to see it. I like the cast.
Really?! I wasn’t expecting it to do that bad.
It’s a good movie. I’m disappointed to hear this.
LOL! Yikes!
