Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports deals being questioned? Jay-Z has proven that he can do it big in areas other than music as he has become a true businessman. And his most recent venture in the sports industry has been taking off as Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports agency has landed deals with pro stars Robinson Cano, Victor Cruz and WNBA rookie Sklyar Diggins. Things haven’t gone smoothly for Jay with RNS though as he ruffled some feathers with his move to take on professional athletes and received criticism over his quest to become a certified agent. With all the deals that Roc Nation Sports has landed with various pro athletes, CAA, who has a partnership with RNS, is now being questioned by the NFLPA about the extent of their relationship with Roc Nation Sports, this coming on the heels of the news about the deal that was made between New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and the agency.

Here’s the report:

The NFLPA has already completed an inquiry into what role, if any, Jay-Z played in restricted free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz firing his previous agent and hiring CAA Sports. “Our investigation into CAA Sports’ representation of Victor Cruz concluded that Jay-Z had no role in the selection of a CAA Sports agent to be his contract adviser,” Atallah said. Cruz is represented by CAA Sports NFL player agent Tom Condon for playing contract work.

Atallah, in a telephone interview today, addressed recent speculation surrounding Roc Nation Sports, including its hiring of an NFLPA-certified agent and its signing of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, as well as other issues that have been raised in the media.

Assistant executive of director for external affairs George Atallah also says that the NFLPA is attempting to get a full understanding of exactly what kind of partnership Roc Nation Sports and CAA have with each other:

“Of course we are aware of the new relationship between Roc Nation and CAA.

“We will be reaching out to all of the parties involved to get a better understanding of the nature of those relationships.”

The NFLPA has recently passed new regulations regarding agent certification, many speculating that the changes were made to prevent Jay-Z from becoming NFLPA-certified. As far as the new regulations are concerned, Atallah says:

“The board of player reps passed a new set of agent regulations and there are no exceptions for individuals or entities following those regulations.”

  1. Jay-Z has these agents shook and they are looking for any and every way to try to slow him down but this is nothing to a #BOSS.

  2. Haters gon hate. It’s a shame how far people will go to hate on this man and his wife. They always come out on top tho. #StayMad

  3. He’ll be fine. I’m sure he expected there to be resistance. When you decide you want to be more than a rapper, people will hate. They hate his ambition.

  4. Sounds like they are mad he hired someone with a degree to be the company’s agent. They thought he would have to walk away because he didn’t have a degree. But that’s not what business people do. They will hire someone before they walk away from a business idea.

  5. I’m not shocked! People hate Jay-Z! They wanted him to stay in his lane and just be a “rich” rapper. He had bigger ideas and they hate that.

  6. I knew people weren’t going to be happy about Jay getting into sports. He’ll overcome this though. Too much ambition.
