Idris Elba has already proven he has some major acting chops, so it’s pretty clear why the talented actor and ladies favorite keeps the movie roles coming. Next up for Idris is his lead role as Nelson Mandela in the much-anticipated biopic “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” and although the movie has not hit theaters yet, there’s already lots of Oscar buzz surrounding the film. In fact, many anticipate Idris could get his first Oscar from his portrayal of beloved Nelson Mandela. The movie’s description is as follows:
The epic motion picture will span Mandela’s extraordinary life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected President of South Africa. It is a thrilling and ultimately joyous story of a good man triumphing against all odds.
Based on a screenplay by Bill Nicholson (Sarafina!, Gladiator, Les Miserables), the film will be directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl, The First Grader) and stars Golden-Globe winner, Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther, Prometheus), in the role of Nelson Mandela and Naomie Harris (Skyfall, 28 Days Later, The First Grader) as Winnie Mandela.
The first full and official trailer for the film was just released, and by the few minutes of what we’ve seen, we can understand the Oscar talk. Idris is exceptional in the scenes the trailer did show and we’re anticipating its release to the theaters. The movie will be released to all theaters November 29 and definitely looks like it’s worth a watch. Check out the official full trailer below:
OMG! can this man get any more perfect he already sexy I knew he was talented but he just took it too another level. This is definitely oscar worthy.
I saw people hating on this movie already in the YouTube comments. SMDH. Anyway, I will be seeing it and I hope he at least gets nominated.
Idris is such a great actor. I’ve been watching old episodes of The Wire too. He killed that role. Get Idris.
*get it
You too? I’ve been watching The Wire all weekend. Believe it r not, it’s my first time watching it. I’m in season two. The show is like crack cocaine. It’s so addictive. I can see why some say its the best show to ever be on TV.
Wait til you get to season 3…man!!!
Can’t wait!
Looks good!
I can see this is going to be good.
He could actually do it with this role. It’s sufficient quirky, it’s got gravitas, it’s got tremendous historical significance. Idris is going against type somewhat (even though he’s not really got a type) but the accent helps. Depending on what other movies are on the landscape and whether or not there is an aging giant that needs to be taken care of he’s got a punchers chance of winning an Oscar.
