Jonathan Willard Tennessee Titans linebacker saves family from burning car on the highway. NFL players often get praised for the things they do on the football field during games. While their accomplishments on the field are celebrated by millions of hardcore fans, commentators and other pro ballers alike, the good deeds they do off the field often go unnoticed. That won’t be the case for Tennessee Titans rookie linebacker Jonathan “Tig” Willard as he is making headlines for his recent heroic act as the NFL player saved a family from a burning car on the highway on his way to training camp in Tennessee, TigerNet.com reports:
“I saw this car in front of me, and it had all kinds of black smoke coming out of it,” Willard told TigerNet Tuesday evening. “I tried to speed up and get up next to the car to let them know the car was on fire.”
Once he realized the car was on fire, Jonathan got up next to the vehicle and noticed a female driver with three small children and a dog were inside of it. He then honked his horn and flashed his lights and was able to get the driver’s attention and got her to pull the car over:
“When she pulled over, the car was really on fire at that point,” Willard said. “The driver, she acted like she was in some kind of daze or something. She told me that she didn’t stop because she didn’t think it was her car that was on fire. Another guy stopped, and we managed to get the kids and the dog out and get them to safety, and then I finally got the woman out.
“I was just glad that we got the kids and all of them out of the car,” he said. “I was thinking that I was just doing what everybody else would do, but there were cars just going past us and no one else was stopping, so I don’t know if that is what would happen or not.”
Jonathan says although the car was a total loss, the woman who was driving the car thanked him repeatedly for rescuing her family.
The Tennessee Titans organization is very proud of Jonathan Willard for his heroic act and so are we.
