Kanye West’s “Yeezus” sales drop 80% in second week? Many people were wondering just how good Kanye West’s “Yeezus” album would be considering all the controversy it has caused from its title to the album cover Kanye was trying to use. With the album leaking early on the Internet, both fans and critics took to Twitter to offer their opinions on Kanye’s latest work. And despite some of the negative reviews and all the troubles Kanye faced with putting the album together, it was predicted Kanye would be pleased with the outcome as “Yeezus” was projected to sell around 500,000 copies in its first week. Although “Yeezus” did perform very well in its first week, along with J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” pulling in high numbers as well, the album fell short of expectations and its sales were deemed as a failure by industry insiders who feel an artist like Kanye should be able to sell more albums than that. The good news didn’t last for Kanye though as “Yeezus” sales have fallen by 80% according to Billboard:

Last week’s No. 1, Kanye West’s “Yeezus,” falls by 80% to No. 3 — the largest second-week percentage drop for a No. 1-debuting album in over a year. It sold 65,000 in its sophomore frame. A week ago it bowed with 327,000.

Comparatively, the average second-week drop for a No. 1-debuting album in 2013 is 69%. (West’s last solo album, 2010’s No. 1-bowing “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” slid by 78% in its second week.)

Dropping 80% in sales is considered a large drop by the industry’s standards and it’s assumed that this why Kanye decided to now drop a single for the album.

In related news, Wale has much to be happy about as the rapper snagged his first number one album as “The Gifted” had a strong first week, selling 158,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Congrats to Wale on getting his first number one album.

  1. I am not surprised Yeezus dropped it only sold on shock value the album was terrible. Congrats Wale his album was good in my opinion and I have that love hate thing on repeat.

  2. Who didn’t see this coming? That album is terrible. I don’t think releasing a single will save it. I’m happy for Wale though.

  3. Kanye is so arrogant that he probably thought his name alone would secure monster success. Nope. Wrong! LOL.

  4. Wale’s album is good. J. Cole’s is better. But Kendrick’s sh-ts on both of them. Kanye fell off like three albums or so ago. He just had the white boys masking it. But now even they are over him and they bought J. Cole’s album instead. LOL.

  5. Not surprised! If you want to sell any albums in this economy, you have to make sure you’re pushing out some good music. Kanye didn’t do that this time around. He can’t blame anyone but himself.
