Kendrick Lamar has been steady working towards becoming one of the top emcees in Hip Hop, and the young Compton rapper has made it pretty clear that he wants to be a legend in the game when it’s all said and done. Now that the rapper officially has his first platinum album with “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City,” the accolades are starting to pour in. However, Kendrick caused quite the stir after his verse on Big Sean’s “Control” went viral. In the verse, Kendrick challenged his peers Drake, J. Cole, Wale, Meek Mill, ASAP Rocky and a few others to step up lyrically and return to their Hip Hop roots. Of course he caused controversy when he called himself the “King of New York” in the verse, making some of New York’s up and coming rappers get in the studio to respond. While the verse wasn’t meant as a diss, there are many labeling it as such, and those rappers named haven’t hopped in the booth to record their rebuttals just yet. However, Wale did speak out recently about his feelings regarding Kendrick’s verse and he tells TMZ he’s actually honored Kendrick dropped his name.

Wale tells the TMZ paps:

“I’d been offended if my name wasn’t in that sh*t. So shout out to TDE and shout out to Kendrick. I’d a felt a way if my name wasn’t in the verse.”

Wale then took a moment to confirm he still feels he’s the best rapper in the game:

“I still feel like I’m the best rapper on the planet. I feel like that. You should too TMZ.”

  1. And that’s why Lupe Fiasco was so salty. If you weren’t named in that verse, it means he didn’t think you were worthy. He doesn’t think you’re all that nice. Now I don’t know why ASAP Rocky was named because I think he sucks, but Kendrick got all the other names right.

  2. If anyone is in their feelings about what Kendrick said, they missed the whole point. And I can’t do anything but laugh at all these unknown rappers hopping in the booth like the song was even about them. I guess they got to get on some kind of way.

  3. Anybody that “writes a response” would be considered salty in my opinion. That bar of Kendrick’s verse summoned other artists to step up their music and perfect their craft in general. I’ve only seen two “responses” this far by Cassidy and Lupe……enough said. The only response needed is consistent and meaningful hip hop records from all these dudes.
