Robin Thicke has finally managed to land his first big hit with “Blurred Lines,” but the hot single has also made him the target to protests and criticisms for women activist groups. As we reported recently, the singer came under fire for the song because some activists felt like the lyrics were encouraging the rape of women, but Robin dismissed the allegations and has managed to sell lots of albums thanks to its popularity regardless. Now that the controversy surrounding the song’s lyrics has died down, Robin is under scrutiny once again as deceased and legendary R&B singer Marvin Gaye’s family has a bone to pick with Thicke over “Blurred Lines.” According to the Gaye family, “Blurred Lines” is a rip off of Marvin’s hit “Got to Give It Up.” To protect himself from a possible lawsuit from the Gaye family; Robin, T.I. and Pharrell Williams filed a lawsuit first and all three artists aren’t looking for money but the court’s agreement that they did not violate any copyrights related to Marvin’s song. However, Marvin Gaye’s son has made it clear he is not happy with Robin and thinks the suit is just a tool to intimidate his family.
Marvin’s son Marvin III is speaking out more in detail about the lawsuit and he tells TMZ he feels Robin Thicke has made a career out of copying his father. He tells the website:
“If you listen to the music, I’m sure anyone can see the similarities between what my father does and what Robin Thicke has been trying to do.”
He also hints that the Gaye family does plan to move forward and file a lawsuit:
“Of course we can see the similarities and for him to turn around and blatantly say he’s a fan of my dad’s and he’s got inspiration for his music from my father and then turn around and want to sue us for the work that he’s done that’s clearly a complete copy…what would he want to be protected from if he didn’t do anything?
“My counsel is in the process of taking care of business.”
Marvin III also says the legal battle is bad timing for him because he has an album he needs to promote and he’s dealing with medical issues.
Watch the interview below:
He’s doing way too much. Get a job bruh.
LOL exactly.
Cosign. And did her really need to give an interview to TMZ? #AttentionWhore
What? Does he just sit around all day living off his Dad’s money and success? What a joke.
Funny, so he’s claiming Robin Thicke is eating off of Marvin, but so is he. Oh the irony.
Sigh…
Now that I’ve seen this little man for the first time and heard him speak, I’m convinced he’s an embarrassment to Marvin’s legacy.
LOL at him trying to plug his own bootleg album. Boy stop!
Well Robin wanted success, here it is. Smh.
LOL. He looks like he’s still stuck in the 70s with that getup.
He looks like a sloppy mess. Let me guess, he just lives off his Dad’s estate, and he’s wasting the money his Dad made on some unnecessary studio time to record an album no one wants to hear. So he figures he’ll used the whole issue with Robin as some free publicity. Eek.
I have a lot of respect for his Dad, but this man here is a damn joke. He needs to leave Robin alone.
He going to far he reaching with this now .The song does have similarities but not enough for a lawsuit he really needs to leave this alone people in the music business does things like this all the time.
