Kendrick Lamar Leads in BET’s Hip Hop Awards Nominations

Kendrick Lamar is having some very major moments in his career right now. Not only did the “Money Trees” rapper manage to gain some major buzz with his verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” but the hype surrounding the lyrics which called out Drake, J. Cole, Wale, Big Sean, ASAP Rocky and other stars of Hip Hop gave him a bump in sales that made his latest album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” go platinum. While rappers continue to hop in the studio to record their responses to Kendrick, he continues to make a bigger name for himself in music. He’s already made it clear he’s certainly not rushing to record a follow-up to his platinum album, and perhaps that’s best considering the accolades from his latest album are still pouring in.

According to a press release released by BET, Kendrick Lamar has managed to scoop up the most nominations for the 2013 Hip Hop Awards. According to the network, Kendrick nabbed a whopping 14 nominations. The Compton emcee was nominated for honorable awards such as Best Live Performer and Lyricist of the Year.

Kendrick called into BET’s 106 & Park the other day and talked about how honored he feels to be nominated for numerous titles. He tells Bow Wow:

“God is good, homie. It’s a privilege to be a part of it [the HHA], you know. For the most part, BET always acknowledged my talent and I always hold that as an honor.

“The highlight for me is really going around the world and watching these people enjoy my music. I think the hardest thing for an artist to do from jump is to get one person to listen to your music, so to come from that, come from my neighborhood listening, to come from my city listening, to my state and LA listening, and going around the world, that’s a beautiful thing.”
