Robin Thicke’s legal drama surrounding his hit song “Blurred Lines” doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. As we recently reported, Robin has found himself in the middle of what appears to be growing into a nasty legal battle with deceased R&B singer Marvin Gaye’s family. Robin Thicke is being accused of ripping off Gaye’s song “Got to Give It Up” to create his current Billboard hit, and in an attempt to protect himself legally from what he figured could become a serious court battle, he filed a lawsuit against the family with Pharrell Williams and T.I. joining in on the suit.

Marvin Gaye’s son Marvin III has spoken out a few times on the issue, and says he feels it’s very disrespectful for Robin to have filed a suit against the family. He even claimed in another interview that he honestly feels like Robin Thicke has made a career out of copying ideas from his father who is considered a legend of R&B.

And while the suit Robin and the other featured artists filed is said to be nothing more than a form of legal protection against hefty lawsuits if the judge does rule that no copyrights were violated, a source tells Billboard that the whole thing started after the Gaye family allegedly turned down a six-figure offer from Robin Thicke.

According to the publication, the six-figure offer allegedly made by Robin was meant to prevent a copyright infringement lawsuit from being filed by the Gaye family, but the report claims the family turned it down. The source goes on to say the turning down of the offer is what led to Robin, T.I. and Pharrell filing their lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

So far yet, neither side has neither confirmed or denied the report.

  1. But why would Robin sue to protect himself if he actually wanted to give away money? Not making sense. I think Marvin’s son told Billboard this mess. Smh.

    1. Well think about it. Six figures is 100,000-999,999. Marvin’s family probably wants millions. Robin doesn’t want to split with that much money.

  2. White artists have been stealing from black artists for a very long time. Elvis Presley anyone? You can hear Marvin’s influence throughout Robin’s work…

  3. They need to take that money and run because honestly they don’t have a case because Robin didn’t have to offer them ish.
