Kanye West doesn’t give a lot of interviews these days, but when he does, it’s no question that the artist gets completely honest and the raw side of him makes for great headlines. Recently, Kanye told Zane Lowe of BBC Radio 1 the real reason he loves Kim Kardashian is because she has her own money and she’s not a gold digger. But Kanye actually opens up a lot more in the remainder of the interview and he spoke candidly about his latest career moves and just how he feels about the music industry as a whole.

Kanye’s latest album “Yeezus” didn’t see the kind of commercial success Kanye was hoping for, but the rapper made it clear in the interview that he believes most people were offended by him calling himself a god because he’s a black man and they are angered by his high level of confidence in a post slavery America. Kanye says:

“When someone comes up and says something like, ‘I am a God,’ everybody says, ‘Who does he think he is?’ I JUST TOLD YOU WHO I THOUGHT I WAS: A GOD. Would it have been better if I had song that said, ‘I am a n—-a,’ or if I had a song that said ‘I am a gangster,’ or if I had a song that said ‘I am a pimp’? All those colors and patinas fit better on a person like me, right? But to say you are a God, especially when you got shipped over to the country that you’re in, and you’re last name is a slave-owner’s, how could you say that? How could you have that mentality?”

Kanye also talked about why he has so much confidence and says his parents instilled in him the importance of believing in himself. His dad was a black panther and his mother had accomplished a lot in her life as well:

“My father was a black panther, my father was a photo journalist. We had a dark room in our house. Seven years ago, he lived in a homeless shelter, not because he was homeless, because he wanted to help the ex-drug addicts, he wanted to get that close. He started a foundation called Good Water and moved to the Dominican Republic, to help with the prostitution, to help with the extortion. He stays in the DR right now. My mom was the first black female chair of the English Department. There is no awards show, there is no amount of Billboards, there is nothing that can define me or make me pass what my parents made me. And that’s exactly who I am.”

  1. Oh Kanye…just shut up and make good music. We excused your queen antics before because the music was good. But now that it’s not, our patience is about gone.

  2. It’s nothing wrong with teaching your kid to be fearless and confident, but Kanye comes off like a child throwing temper tantrums.

  3. No, actually Kanye a lot of us just have more respect for God than you do. You are just a human being and you will never be anything close to God.

  4. And this is the problem with stans. They have these celebs thinking they are gods. It’s one of the reasons Rihanna’s dumb a-s thought she could go around and bully people and no one would do anything about it. Teyana had to bring her wack behind right back down to earth. I wonder who’s going to do it for Kanye…

  5. I get what he’s saying, but for me it was purely for religious reasons why I was offended. I don’t think any of us are gods. We can never be on God’s level.

  6. Crazy how he’s the son of a black panther and his mom was an amazing black woman, yet he chose to impregnate white trash because she “has her own money.”

  7. Kanye, don’t you dare pull the race card. You haven’t been with a black woman in years and you were so desperate to have a white girl on your arm that you ended up with Kim out of all people. Shut up.

  8. Yet black people were offended too. I think Kanye’s mom would be so disappointed in Kanye if she was alive today. She raised him to be righteous and to be a great person, but now he’s nothing more than a clown. He fights paps, throws temper tantrums and impregnated Kim Kardashian. What a shame.
