Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, but he seems to be set on being more controversial than usual these days considering some of the recent comments he’s made (he compared his fiancée Kim Kardashian to Michelle Obama) and he recently said in an interview that he’s supposed to exploit himself and Kim for profit. However, Kanye’s latest controversy involves a painful symbol to African Americans. The “Yeezus” rapper has been photographed out and about rocking a jacket that sports a confederate flag. He’s even been selling merchandise which contains the flag at his shows, and he said in an interview he plans to keep rocking the flag because he’s taking it back from racists and making it a positive symbol for blacks.

While some of Kanye’s fans love his plan, there a lot more people who find it all offensive and very hurtful to African Americans. In fact, one of Kanye’s closest friends, rapper Q-Tip from the legendary Hip Hop group A Tribe Called Quest, says he just can’t get with it. He tweets (read from bottom to top):

q tip twitter

We’re thinking Q-Tip’s tweets won’t have much of an impact on Kanye’s latest move, since he was even photographed walking out of Barneys New York recently rocking the jacket with pride.

  1. I love me some Q-Tip. But back to the subject, Kanye is a sellout. And it’s not because he is with Kim either. It’s because he’s become so in love with getting attention and shocking people that he’s forgotten about the music. And because he sold out his talent, he’s now selling out his own people. He’s a disgrace to black people and Hip Hop completely. I’m done with him.

  2. Kanye is a lost cause. After the comments he made about Michelle Obama, I knew then that he will never go back to being that very intelligent brother who fought for the race like he was when he first came out. He hasn’t been the same since his mom died. And he never will be.

  3. Kanye is just a troll now. He says and does everything for attention. It works for now but there’s going to come a point that it won’t work anymore. And when that happens he will lose his mind. That’s all he cares about now. He’s just as much of an attention whore as his girl. I didn’t think that was even possible.

  4. I don’t buy that whole taking something negative and making it our own BS. They tried to do that with the N word and still to this day if a white person says the word they go crazy. So obviously it didn’t work. And it won’t work with the confederate flag. But I’m sure Kanye is really just doing it to get attention. That’s all he really cares about nowadays.

  5. I agree with Q Tip on this. Kanye can make a million jackets with that flag on it and it won’t change the history that comes with it. He’s an intelligent man but he’s also very naive when it comes to black history. I think Kanye should really do some more research on the flag because he’s looking really lost right now.

  6. I wish Kanye would take a long hiatus from music and the spotlight. I need a break from him and his attention whoring.

  7. Q-Tip has always been into helping the black community and speaking out on our issues so I’m not surprise he said this. But he should know that Kanye is so far gone that it’s no need in trying to convince him what he’s doing is wrong. This man just disrespected Michelle Obama and didn’t seem to mind it at all. He’s such a disappointment.

  8. Phuck Kanye and his pathetic wife to be. They are both losers in my book and I don’t care what he does anymore. All I know is that there are better rappers out here and the old Kanye ain’t never coming back so he doesn’t get my money anymore.

  9. He’s an idiot to think he can change the whole meaning behind a flag that is tied to all the struggles of blacks. He gets dumber by the day.

  10. I mean I see what he is trying to do….but…no sir and have a seat. Sometimes Kanye behaves like a child who got no attention and is now demanding it by any means neccessary. SIT DOWN with the foolery sir!
