Jay Z caught a lot of backlash after he decided he would stick with his Barneys deal despite the retailer getting accused of racially profiling multiple black shoppers.
In a statement he released during the controversy, the rapper and business man told his fans that he was sticking with Barneys because he planned to use all the proceeds for his charity, The Sean Carter Foundation.
According to the New York Daily News, despite the bad press and online petitions, Jay Z’s Barneys deal made over a million dollars in profits.
Apparently the clothing line sold so well that Jay Z’s charity will get a check that will exceed $1 million.
All the money given to the charity from the Barneys deal will help needy students pay for college. For more information on Jay Z’s scholarship program which helps send young adults from poverty-stricken environments to college and even study abroad, click here.
Well at least some good came out of all of this foolishness.
Well let’s see…I would think most of the money made came from wealthy whites since blacks were protesting the store. So in essence, Jay Z took money from the same people who racially profiled the black shoppers and sent kids from the hood to college. That’s a boss move. Love it.
Talk about taking a negative and turning it into a positive. I’m not even mad.
I wanted him to drop the deal and send a message, but I’m glad he is using the money to send black kids to college.
Considering how college tuition keeps going up and salaries are stagnant, I approve of this.
And PHUCK Sallie Mae.
Dope. I’m glad he’s sending people to college.
And they say Jay Z doesn’t do anything for black people! Wrong!
