T-Pain has made it clear on numerous occasions that he feels like Future copied his whole auto tune style but it appears he’s not done yet naming copycats in his interviews.

In fact, the “Up Down” rapper says that Kanye West took his style for his widely successful “808s and Heartbreak” album and he says he feels unappreciated because people didn’t want to admit it was influenced by T-Pain’s style. He tells VLAD TV:

“The crazy thing was I worked on 808s & Heartbreak with Kanye. I went down to Hawaii for like 10 days with that n*gga. You know what I’m saying? And Kanye actually told me himself. My album, Rappa Ternt Sanga, he said ‘I listened to your album Rappa Ternt Sanga. I heard all the songs. I f*ckin love your album Rappa Ternt Sanga. I think you a genius. Blah blah blah.He went through this whole spiel. He said, ‘But what I figured out that Rappa Ternt Sanga is just a bunch of love songs with a sh*t load of base in em.’ And I’m like ‘Well, love songs is like heartbreaks and the sh*t load of bass is the 808s. So, you calling your album 808s & Heartbreak because you making a bunch of love songs with a sh*t load of bass in ‘em?’ And he basically was like ‘Yeah, pretty much.’”

T-Pain says he is appreciative that he inspired Kanye’s album but he wasn’t happy with the fact that so many people were calling the album so creative when he feels he did it first:

“I respect that sh*t, but it’s like the praise that he got from it was like ‘Oh my God, this is so creative. This is the new sh*t. This is the sh*t. And I’m like ‘Well, what happened in 2005 when I dropped Rappa Ternt Sanga and it was the same album. That’s kind of weird.’ You know what I’m saying. It just felt like I was unappreciated and anything like that. Any originator of anything is gonna be the lesser known because it’s the newest thing and that’s just not—it’s not right, but that’s just how sh*t goes.”

  1. People hate to give T-Pain credit but he is the one that made everyone want to use auto tune. And I believe him when he says he inspired Kanye to do 808s. But in my mind no one can make auto tune sound good right now but T-Pain.

    1. True because Future sounds like a hot mess. A little part of me dies on the inside every time I hear any of his terrible music.

  2. Sigh here we go again now that T-pain song is losing airplay he is starting up again this getting predictable lol.

  3. But didn’t we just read a post on here about Kanye still a sample and not even paying for it? Let’s not act like Kanye is above stealing ideas and not giving credit. LOL.

  4. Kanye does still tho…had this not been T-Pain people would be on here dragging Kanye. Let’s not be hypocrites people. T-Pain makes good music and Up Down is my damn jam. I just want to start twerking when that song comes on the radio and in the clubs. LOL.

  5. Why does it seem like too many rappers are always up in their feelings about some thing or the other, nowadays? No one just is anymore, they just want to whine and complain. I miss the days of Tupac and co!
