When word got out that Trayvon Martin’s murderer George Zimmerman would once again profit from the murder of the slain teenager via a celebrity boxing match against rapper DMX, the outrage for the upcoming event poured in all over social media.
And it didn’t take long for petitions to start circulating too and just hours after their creation they received over 20,000 signatures.
But it looks as if all the outrage and backlash has paid off because it’s caused the promoter to cancel the boxing match. In fact, he confirmed the fight would not go down on his Twitter account and he cited the angry comments for making him have a change of heart.
TMZ writes:
George Zimmerman will not be going toe-to-toe with DMX in a celebrity boxing event … and the promoter says it’s because his conscience finally kicked in.
The promoter for the event took to Twitter Saturday afternoon to officially cancel the event … and said he finally realized there’s “more to life then money.”
Thank God!
Great but it should have never been planned to begin with. Zimmerman should not be out here making money off murder. Evil bastard.
Good!!!!
Good! It shouldn’t have even got this far.
Exactly.
I’m sure Zimmerman will just find another way to extend his 15 minutes and profit from Trayvon’s murder. Smh.
I’m glad to see the petitions and protests were successful. That’s why it is always important to stand up for change and not be silent on injustice.
Thank goodness. I was really feeling even more terrible for Trayvon’s parents.
And what in the world was DMX even thinking when he agreed to this?! He’s a black man so he should have known how insensitive this was to Trayvon’s death.
Thank you!
All I can do is shake my head at the whole situation. But I’m glad it’s been cancelled.
There are better ways to make money. This person should have had a conscience from day one and never even put this out here.
I think the fight should have happened all money shoulda went to the Trayvon family
So murdering kids now makes you a celebrity? I’m glad this foolishness was put to a stop.
