Actress Taraji P Henson has managed to keep the roles coming in, but she still isn’t complacent about where she fits in today’s Hollywood. In fact, Taraji says that she loathes that she is always grouped together with actresses she feels aren’t as accomplished.
The Oscar nominated actress tells Ebony Magazine:
“I’m treated like I’m on the D-list. I’m still being considered with actresses who haven’t done half the stuff I’ve achieved.
“When people tell me ‘no,’ I get hyped. Because when I prove that I can and will, I love watching people eat crow.”
Taraji covers the October issue of Ebony Magazine. Check out the cover below:
In related news, Taraji and Idris Elba’s new film “No Good Deed” topped the box office in its opening week. The film earned around $24.6 million despite only being shown in 2,175 locations.
I love this chick. #ThatIsAll
They treat her like she’s D list because she’s a black actress. It doesn’t matter what she does, or what awards she gets. She will always be put in the same box as other black actresses.
True. And the black actresses who do win Oscars don’t get treated any better. They prefer to see us playing maid/mammy roles than be leads. Smh.
Saw the movie and it was good!! Of course it also didn’t hurt that we got to see Idris’ body….GLORY!!!
She’s a good actress but she should know how the Hollywood game is played by now. It’s hard for any black actress to become A list. And you get an Oscar, your career becomes sh-t like a year later.
I love me some Taraji she always keeps it 100% real. I didn’t see the movie yet because I can’t stand going to see movies on opening weekend but I plan too see it this week.
Just curious, why don’t you like seeing movies in the opening week?
Unfortunately for Taraji, good writers like Shonda Rimes who write excellent parts for black women are rare. Taraji might need to move back to the small screen for better roles. Unless you’re playing a slave or the help, most big screen roles for black actresses are incredibly linited.
She’ll be back on the small screen in January starring in Empire.
Thanks for the heads up!
She’s honestly one of my favorite actresses right now. I get what she’s saying because I do feel she’s very underrated.
The movie is good.
Maaaaaaaaaan. Her on this cover tho. Love it!!!! She’s hands down one of my favorite actresses. I get her frustrations with Hollywood, but I think she has a pretty loyal fan base. As long as she’s supported from that aspect, I think she’ll end up where she deserves to be when all is said and done.
She’s actually doing well for herself. She gets TV and movie roles constantly and all her roles are different.
I haven’t seen the movie yet but I keep hearing it’s good.
Saw the movie yesterday (Yes) and though it was a lil disappointing at the end. I still liked it nonetheless. I love me some IDRIS!!!! Shyt I wish he would rape me or slap me around lmao….anyway I get what Taraji is saying…she is a betta actress than most
