Jada Pinkett-Smith has always stood up for her kids when they get criticized and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
The actress is making promotional rounds for her new show “Gotham” and when Sway Calloway asked her what she thinks about the public’s constant criticism of her children Jaden and Willow, she responded with the following:
“Well you know, I think the most difficult part and the scariest part is when you see young people who have the confidence to just be who they are and that’s how they were raised. That’s what I expect of my children.”
She also defended Jaden wearing a batman costume at Kimye’s wedding reception and made it clear he actually wore an Alexander McQueen suit to the actually ceremony.
Jada gets a little deeper about why she feels it’s important for kids to be allowed to be true to themselves. She says:
“So for me when I look at a person who has the confidence to just do them because that kind of confidence rolls over into a lot of other things as they get older because…I always say, worry about being respected. Never worry about being liked because that’s the trap. That’s where people manipulate you. So I did not teach my kids to be liked. I taught them to always live by their truth and to always respect others and to always reach to be respected. And different people will respect different things.
“But at the end of the day, my kids have the confidence to be who they are and that is all as a parent Will and I can ask of them. And that is where all their power and strength will come from.”
Jada also says the picture with Willow and a shirtless older male was blown out of proportion, and she finds it interesting that Willow’s schoolmates couldn’t understand the outrage.
She also dropped a lot of gems about Tupac. She revealed he even loved Rock & Roll and Heavy Metal. Check out the video below:

I think people are so hard on their kids because they’re weirdos and not typical kids. They definitely march to the beat of their own drums. But it’s too soon to write them off as dysfunctional. Let’s see how they turn out. So far they are never in any real trouble and have their own passions and interests. They seem like decent kids to me.

I will always love Jada but ain’t nothing she can say to justify Willow a 13 year old being in the bed with a shirtless 20 year old man. It just something about that disturbs my spirit.
They’re a very open minded family or extremely deep into scientology. I’m not sure which one yet.
I used to think Willow was too grown but she’s calmed down a lot. #shrugs
Ain’t nothing wrong with those kids. They’re just annoying and weird rich kids. They’ll be aight.
I think Jaden and Willow are harmless. I don’t understand why they get bashed so much. They aren’t the worst kids in Hollywood that’s for sure.
