BET’s long running music video show “106 & Park” was the target of controversy after show writers convinced Karrueche Tran to make a crude joke about Blue Ivy’s hair on air, but after firing the producers who were responsible, the show still hasn’t managed to get back on track ratings wise.

So the network confirmed in a press release that the show has been cancelled, and instead the show will air specials online.

Rap-Up writes:

There are still plans to produce “106 & Park” specials throughout the year, including the annual New Year’s Eve show, “106 & Party,” along with live event experiences at the BET Awards and BET Experience.

The long-running show launched in 2000 with hosts Free and AJ and in 2006 welcomed Terrence J and Rocsi Diaz. It featured some of the biggest stars in music, movies, television, and sports including Beyoncé, Madonna, Tom Cruise, and even First Lady Michelle Obama.

“We have pride in being involved with the show that has welcomed almost every movie star, music superstar, and fresh-faced talent you can name,” said Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials. “We’ve all laughed with and been entertained by the young men and women hosts that have charmed us at 6 p.m. (and more recently 5 p.m.) each weekday.”

But it’s not the end of the road. In 2015, BET plans to take the show digital via BET.com and its social media platforms.

Current hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chante will host the final on air show December 19.

  1. I kind of feel like this is karma. BET was wrong for going after Blue Ivy. It’s time for the whole network to revamp itself.

  2. They should just cancel the whole network already. It lost its meaning as a “Black Entertainment Network” a looooong time ago. No point in holding on to it.

  3. For an adult to make a joke about a child…it’s time to shut the show down! The mother (Beyoncé) and the father (Jay-z) supported this show for the young people…that was very distasteful!

  4. Tuh y’all can pretend the Blue Ivy thing had nothing to do with it if you want to but baby karma is very real. God don’t like ugly. Did Beyonce call and get the show pulled? I doubt it. But don’t think for a second that God didn’t have the final say so because he definitely did. Leave these kids alone. Talk about reaping what you sow.

  5. I heard from a friend who has a relative who worked on the set that the Blue Ivy thing was basically the final straw. Ratings were already bad but ratings got worse after that. And with white people owning the network now, the whole thing was just really offensive. I mean seriously a lot of black women are natural now. So why even go there? BET needs to go back to the drawing board. It needs better programing.
