It was reported that former “Scandal” star Columbus Short was handed the pink slip because of his constant legal troubles and his very public falling out with his estranged wife.
The domestic abuse accusations seemingly burned the bridge with the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes, but Columbus is now claiming the real reason for his troubles was drug addiction.
He tells Access Hollywood Live:
“I’ll be candid. I was struggling with drugs. I had a lot on my plate, and you know, I was using unhealthy ways to kind of self-medicate and deal with a lot of heavy duty stuff in my life.
“The real drugs – I did cocaine. I was doing cocaine and drinking a lot, and trying to balance a 16-hour work schedule a day, and a family, and, I just lost myself back then.”
Columbus also revealed that Shonda Rhimes knew about his addiction and it’s one of the reasons she thought it would be best to write him off the show so he could handle his personal issues off-screen.
Makes sense. I hope he gets the help he needs.
But is he in rehab? That’s what I hope he’s doing right now since he’s no longer on Scandal.
Wasted talent. I hope he gets it together soon.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Drug addiction is no joke. I can respect his honesty. That’s not something a lot of people want to share.
Wow. This is the first time he’s actually taken responsibility for his bad choices. It may be hope for him after all.
He’s going to have to get over himself and do what’s right for him because he is a father.
And yet Shonda, and her crew didn’t say a word about his issues, nor did they leak it to the media. This is why I love this woman – professional all the way.
Katherine Heigl must have been a Class A B-tch, cuz Shonda sure as hell didn’t hold back on that one though.
I’m still rooting for this dude. I know he messed up royally, but I’d like to think his career isn’t over.
A lot of actors and singers are on coke.
He has so many demons. Good luck to him.
Really hope he gets back on track,God be with you man.
Mona Scott-Young, take notes.
