Rapper Talib Kweli Checks Ben Carson

According to Hip Hop DX, Ben Carson recently put out a rap advertisement to appeal to black voters, and rapper Talib Kweli is not here for it.

Hip Hop DX writes:

Talib Kweli spoke with The Washington Post about his thoughts on Ben Carson’s Rap advertisement. He says he is not impressed with the ad because it is not a real Rap.

“There were no lyrics,” the Brooklyn, New York rapper says of the song, performed by Atlanta rapper Aspiring Mogul. “Just random statements. ‘Carson’ doesn’t even really rhyme with ‘awesome.'”

Kweli says that the ad is not a good way to complete the presidential candidate’s objective of reaching Black voters.

“The most effective way for Ben Carson to reach out to young black voters is to actually care about other Black people, which Ben Carson has proven to be incapable of,” Kweli says. “When you say things like ‘Obamacare is the worst thing that’s happened to America since slavery’ and describe the youth-driven Black Lives Matter as ‘sickening’ and accuse them of ‘bullying’ people, who cares about your Rap ad?”

…Per ABC, Carson’s representatives say the candidate is seeking to reach Black voters by “reaching out and talking to them in a language that they prefer and in a language that, and in a cultural format that they appreciate.”

  1. I don’t really know how to feel about Ben Carson right now. He’s been caught lying about his accomplishments like twice this week. And on top of that, a lot of his stances on certain issues worry me.

  2. it’s going to be so hard to go from the Obamas to whoever is next. They are the flyest, most beautiful and dopest family to ever live in the white house.

  3. Talib is 100% correct. But I shudder to think about all the candidates. All of them are terrible except Bernie. And well we know he can’t win.

  4. How freaking condescending to think the way to reach blk voters is to rap. He is extremely out of touch…shame on him. He’s a political smoke screen.
