Shonda Rhimes Refuses to Fire Jesse Williams for BET Awards Speech

Jesse Williams’ speech at the BET Awards was one of the most talked about moments of the awards show, but his words didn’t sit well with everyone.

In fact some are calling the actor racist, and a petition was created to urge ABC and Shonda Rhimes to fire him from the hit drama.

However, Shonda took to Twitter hours ago to let Jesse’s critics know he’s not going anywhere:

And just in case you missed it, here’s the audio of the speech below:

  1. Great. His speech wasn’t racist anyway. White people do not like being called out so they try to threaten anyone who does it.

  2. I guess they forgot black people on TVs too. They can boycott all they want, I know a lot of us will still support. This is the reason so many black celebs don’t like to speak out against racism. But I’m glad Shonda has his back.

    1. Oh they know what racism is. They just try to drown out the facts by screaming racism anytime black people have any kind of pride. It intimidates them.

  3. Well when Fox News fires some those racist idiots they employed, then just maybe they can talk. Until then, Jesse isn’t going anywhere.

  4. I think I’ve listened to his speech like 50 times and I still can’t detect the racism these crybabies are whining about. But ABC won’t push Shonda to fire him because they can’t afford for their diverse shows to get boycotted by people of color. And there’s no doubt that will happen if they get rid of Jesse. Black people are starting to realize our power now. Now that they know we watch TV in large numbers (Empire anyone), they will tread lightly and let this blow over.

  5. I think most of the people mad about this speech don’t even watch Grey’s anyway. They will find something else to be mad at in a day or so. They can’t think without Fox News telling them how to feel.

    1. This is true. Most of them came straight from Fox News. There’s no way they were watching something as liberal as Grey’s in the first place.

  6. That petition didn’t even have that many signatures. Most people loved the speech and appreciated it.
