Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington is asking black people to stay home on September 26.
He writes the following on his Facebook page:
After a lengthy and substantive discussion with Madelon “Blue” McCullough from #Missing24 , we have united our efforts regarding boycotting the very system that was built on the backs of black people here in America. Every African born in America is fed up, hurt, confused, saddened and angry about the continued extrajudicial killings by public servants in our streets, so collectively we bring forth a solution.
On Monday, September 26, 2016, we are shutting down. No work. No school. No shopping for 24 hours. Our goal is to maintain the safety of our people, while significantly impacting America’s broken judicial system that is oppressing us by removing our labor, our bodies and our money from it…for 24 hours. I ask everyone to follow #Missing24 on Instagram @_missing24 #ItsTime #CanWeDoIt? #ACallToAction #StayHomeSeptember262016 #RIPTerenceCrutcher #HandsUpDontShoot
Hmm I need to think about this…
We need to boycott but most won’t participate.
I’m down
sound good
One day? Cool but we need a long term boycott as well.
No matter how many protest and boycotts we as blacks participate in, the only way to deal with these issues, is to vote. Many people look at national elections, overlooking the local ones. I applaud these celebrities for bringing awareness, but you have to vote. Better people in office, horrible people out.
I’ll call in sick.
I’ve already made my plans to #CallInBlack
May be a small gesture, hopefully people are willing.
