New Edition is a Massive Hit for BET + Bryshere Y. Gray is Done with Music Roles

According to Variety, the New Edition biopic has been a juggernaut for BET.

In fact, the first night alone brought in over 4 million viewers.

Variety writes:

BET’s miniseries “The New Edition Story” got off to a gangbusters start Tuesday night. The network simulcast the premiere on sibling network Centric, and between them both, they pulled in 4.4 million pairs of eyeballs — 2.6 million of which were in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic — for the two-hour installment.

BET attracted the lion’s share of the audience, with 4.2 million total viewers and 2.5 million in the demo. That overall 2.6 million figure in the demo translates to a 1.44 rating, outdoing most of the series on broadcast TV that night. On BET, it was the network’s highest-rated premiere in five years.

In related news, Bryshere Y. Gray says he is done with going after music based roles unless a LL Cool J biopic becomes a reality.

He tells The Boombox:

“Hakeem is such a big part of what I do. [But] I wouldn’t choose any more music roles–unless it was LL Cool J.”

The “Empire” star just got done filming a movie by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

  1. Looks like BET is really trying to step it up. I’m also very interested in the new show with the black woman who is a cop. It’s very comic book like. I can’t wait to check that one out. I can’t remember the name of it though.

  2. Good sh-t. And I have to say Bryshere is killing it. I didn’t think he had it in him but he’s really believable as Mike Bivins.

  3. I believe it was a success because each band member help produce it, this story was told by those who was involve and not a second hand person. Im so proud of them I really enjoyed it, so much so I held off watching Scandal!!! I think more stories should be done while the artist is still alive so we can get the story straight from the horses mouth!
